Any valid rumors about an upcoming macbook pro?

Hey guys, I'm a Dell/Microsoft user looking to scrap the current system in my signature so that I can jump ship into the Apple camp. I haven't owned an apple since the IIgs which was longer than I care to remember. Anyway, I have my eye set on a macbook pro with 23" monitor but I don't want to buy a macbook pro and then another one come out right around the corner. Technically, I can do without a switcheroo until April or so. You guys are much more up to date on the rumors and what have you, so do you think there's a decent chance that another macbook pro would be available before summer rolls around? Thanks guys...

Hmm before summer it is tough to say. It is very possible, but it is also very possible that they would hold off till the next conference this summer as well. There is definitely somewhere for them to go with it(Down to the 45nm Penryn) it is just a matter of when. I don't see it within the net month at least myself, but Apple is good at keeping secrets unlike many larger corporations.

Apple doesn't really announce new hardware during WWDC.

The last update to the MBP, other than a small speed bump and new HD options, was in June so they're due for an update any time now.

Heh my points from the last conversation about this still stand on why it won't happen immediately

But yes they have announced new hardware at WWDC before IIRC, so it is not unheard of.

I think it is a safe call to expect somewhat major revisions in hardware and design either summer or equally likely fall directly after the student ipod program. Things guaranteed so far are LED backlight across the board, new flat keyboard, multitouch gestures which altogether necessitate a shell redesign. The major changes would coincide with montevina which is june at the earliest and if not wwdc then october/november. Seeing this, I don't expect any major upgrades between now and june. penryn and slight bumps in specs are likely but if it should come before april if it is coming at all. if you have to buy within the year, I would recommend soon or towards the end of the year, nothing in the middle or you'll be caught between updates.

Hmm...

So yes it seems to be in the works now. I would still wager about a month before we see it, maybe a little less now. Course it could still be longer.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll wait off until an update rolls around. The only thing I'd like to see would be an improvement with the graphics card.

Hmm to tell the truth, not sure you will get much of an improvement in graphics. They might switch back to ATi, but I am not going to bet on it at the moment. The 8600-GT is still a pretty capable card, and getting much better with heat constraints at the moment is tough.

I play COD2, COD4, COH, BF2 perfectly fine on both my MBP's with 8600 cards...

Well, I'm not a huge gamer, but I would be wanting to play in a 1920x1200 resolution on a widescreen LCD...

im looking into purchasing an apple mac book pro sometime in the future too. im in no hurry so ill probably wait to see what the new stuff coming out will be. the older stuff will definitely drop in price so that could be a good chance to grab one.

They are popping up a bit all around. It would not surprise me to see something in a couple of weeks.

WoW, HL2, and some of the older Prince of Persias or stuff like that. Nothing too demanding but the caveat is that I hate playing at non-standard res.

although im not an apple guy, and i dont usually follow apple products. i have heard from a well placed friend who works at apple (and is fairly high up as well) that there are some changes on the way for the MBP in the "near future" as for exactly the time frame he wouldnt say but there was some talk of new stuff....

i ran into him actually while he was showing another friend of mine his AIR, very cool little toy though even he admitted on the side to me that if he didnt have one through work he wouldnt buy one, as he put it the standard macbook and the MBP offer much more functionality for the dollar, and even more is coming.

im not trying to stoke a rumor mill only trying to add what i have heard to help keep you guys up to date on something you might like....

Thanks for the hearsay Fidget... I'm planning to scrap my current rig and convert to mac as soon as the new mbp's come out. Hopefully it won't be too much longer.

I just switched about a month ago after being a very long time windows user and I can say with a fairly good degree of confidence that I now understand what the fuss with OSX/Mac is all about. I really should have done this years ago. It's been nothing short of awesome for me.

I just got .mac going last night and it's a great add on. Highly recommended.

Heh on the flip side of this, I personally don't find .mac all that great. It is useful for ease of use, but in as far as price for what you pay, it leaves much to be desired IMO.
