It`s here!!! Times of true domination! I doubt if anything currently selling could match pefrormance of DELL`s updated line ...just check out the new m1730 config with dual GTXs
SCARY
Hope to see benchmarks soon and some instant savings, DELL

My new force within ...finally retiring my old and tired m170

Sweet! Now if they would only dump that 8700 pos!!!
It would be nice if the price was reasonable.
NICE!!! I wish they'll get rid of the 8700's now.

I saw that earlier today. I was wondering how long it had been there. Its a 700 dollar option. I wish dell would kill the dual 8700s too. That way in the future people would get 880s as a replacement for the 8700.

Yea, that would be nice. So which is better 1 8800 GTX or 2 7950 GTX's ?
I wish they'd have a single 8800GTX for price/performance.
That definitely is encouraging to see that Dell is taking the next step to keep the XPS systems in line with the rest of the competition, but only offering the dual SLI config puts it in a price range that is really hard to justify considering the depreciation of all computer hardware. What i'd like to see is the new inspiron version of the XPS 1730, sorta like how the E1705 was basically the dressed down version of the 1710.
Dont think you'll be seeing any inspiron with that configuration in the near future. Its clear to me dell has decided that if you want a gaming platform buy and XPS.
They are still selling the M1710 on dell uk and no sign of M1730 with 8800GTX
post #11 of 63
My god the SLI 8800GTX's are now $1000

What are they thinking, this is targeting people who really have the money to blow
post #12 of 63
I have the money but the wife would literally kill me.

She just needs to be taken out of the equation.

Tell me about it, "Hey honey, i'm gonna spend 3600 dollars on a laptop ok?" Wife replies, "Why do you need a 3600 dollar laptop? What's wrong with the one you have?" I reply "Well, it doesn't run crysis as well as it could." Wife replies "Will this 3600 dollar laptop run it well?" "Well no, actually there aren't any computers that can run it maxed out right now... nevervmind"

Well I emailed the tech today that told me that Dell wouldnt be offering the 8800GTX for the M1730 and after some talking he is sending them out to me free of charge. He called it an exchange order. They are scheduled to ship 2/4/08 and a tech will call me to setup a time to come install them. I will let you all know what happens.

Ok so now that the 8800 GTX's are out, is it worth waiting for the Penryn processors? I hear there isn't much of a performance gain but that the battery life is definitely better. And I assume it will run a little cooler on the 45 nm processor.

Say What? You worked out a trade for 2 8800gtx for 2 8700?
he must be one smooth talking son of a b@tch
post #19 of 63
I swear I'm going demand that dell do the same for me after all they've put me through in getting my replacement, would be nice to know that thats why they cancelled my order and havent gotten back to me about it in over 9 days.
I don't understand why they aren't offering a single 8800gtx. Dual is more then I want to spend and the online dell service people don't know what the hell is going on when I asked them
