|The delay of the SB700 southbridge late last year has quite disappointing, especially for those looking for a new 790FX motherboard to go with their quad-core Phenoms so AMD wants to redeem itself in 2008 and is planning to have no less than five 7-series chips released.
The SB700 line-up will include the 'classic' SB700, SB710, SB750 and the server-prone SB700s and SB750s. The first one will be the most basic part although it will offer quite a few of improvements and new features compared to SB600 including HyperFlash, six SATA 3.0 GBps ports, 14 USB 2.0 connectors and HD audio. SB700s will add Super I/O to the mentioned mix while the SB750s will put RAID 5 on top of all. The SB750 will also feature RAID 5 support but lack Super I/0 while the SB710, which is set to come around mid-2008, will bring Super I/O and OverDrive 3.0 support to the SB700 base.
For now though, let's just wait for AMD 790 boards with the SB700.
