One cannot have enough tests with unreleased hardware but after the last batch those lucky enough to have GeForce 9600 GT samples had to go bigger, in this case this meaning to get SLI working and benchmark the setup.

This latest preview test from Chiphell sees two regular G94-powered GeForce 9600 GTs (64 Stream Processors, 512MB GDDR3, 650 MHz core, 1650 MHz shaders, 1800 MHz memory) being coupled with a system consisting of a E6850 at 3.0 GHz, a nForce 680i SLI board, 2GB of DDR2-800 memory plus Windows Vista and the infamous ForceWare 171.16 beta driver and benchmarked with Futuremark's 3DMark03, 05 and 06.

A single 9600 GT scored 10036 points in 3DMark06 (default benchmark) while the SLI setup topped 13080, over 900 points over the results of an 8800 Ultra - 12142. In 3DMark05 at 1280x1024 the 9600 GT SLI setup reached 18427 (16141 for the single card) while in 3DMark03 the pair scored just short of 45000.

More tests results with the single GeForce 9600 GT can be viewed here and they confirm the potential of the upcoming mainstream card. We just have to wait until the end of February to get it.

Mine got a similar score. It was just over 14,000 on 06 with the free settings.

Really impressive coming from a budget card if you ask me.

I am sure if I water cooled the 8800GT I could easily get another 1-2 K out f them, The Stock Cooling is weak IMO

Not sure your cpu, but the GT's got plenty more left in them. I get about 19k with them (dual core).

Depend on price with the 96, if cheap enough that isn't bad at all.

I agree, they really should have at least given them dual-slot cooling, if not simply to add a bigger fan and heatsink array.

With AM cooling - SLI'ed 8800GTs can push over 20k with the right CPU. Awesome performers.

they are so supremely useless

Huh. I got over 50,000 in 3d Mark 03 with my dual 8800GT's in SLI.

And in 06 I got 13,000.

Isn't 03 a GPU benchmark more than 06? If so, these new cards aren't saying much.

EDIT: Just noticed these are 9600s. Not too shabby then I suppose.
