Acer, good option?

I would like to buy this model: Aspire 7520-5115

Turion X2 1.6 TL52
2 GB 667 Mhz
160 GB SATA 5400
17" Wide
Nvidia GeForce 8400 256 MB

two questions: is it good for games?
is Acer a good option?

Probably wont be so great for gaming but it depends on what you play and acer is an okay company but ive heard that customer service isnt good

Well, in my opinion, the processor is the weak point in your wanted system, I would say a 2.0 core at the least. Graphics and Ram will hold for now but I still think you should keep looking if you want to be able to play new games for long. And if your system comes with Vista, make sure you can add ram later. But Acer does make some decent models....at least from what ive heard.

Sorry, I mean games but not like Stalker or Call of Duty 4. what makes me doubt is the brand, I am not sure if Acer is good. The only brand I know which is really bad is Packard bell, that's all.

Acer is okay but there will be a lack of support since it is a taiwanese based company, then again if support isnt a concern it should be fine

Well if that is that case going with acer wont hurt as much as sticking around with a laptop without an independent video card

Yeah go with the acer

acer is a decent low end machine..they do sprinkle some higher quailty parts in with their packages but their customer service is a little spotty at times

Picked up one of these a week or so ago. Better processor than what you had picked out and also a better vid card. Also carries 3G's of memory and Vista Ultimate. I am not a gamer but would think it would be ok for most

Its a Canadian model but I am sure there must be something similar state side

FYI Acer is the 3rd largest computer manufacturer in the world according to sales volume after HP and Dell. You don't get there with poor service.

that acer is ok for games. however you get what you pay for. get a low end machine, get low end performance. this goes for all manufacturers.

if you want a gaming machine. look at the higher end travelmates, aspire line, and ferrari series.

the aspire 5920 with the nvidia 8600 card is probably a good deal.

Acer has been around for a long time, but never really in the forefront. I've found that they're a solid company with some very good equipment. The support is a bit harder to get than HP or Dell - but then just talking to someone certainly doesn't guarantee a quality support experience! Acer is far faster with electronic replies - I've sent them several questions via e-mail that I've had replies on within an hour. That's better than HP or Dell!

As far as hardware goes, they've found the sweet spot with their 6920 series - there are no HP or Dell machines around anywhere (in a store) that have the combination of features that the Acer does. I was willing to spend $1,500 for an HP if it had a decent video card (ie better than an 8400M GS) but I never did find one. Acer has the 9500M GS in this series (slightly faster than the 8600M GT) with a 16:9 aspect ratio, 16" screen, 320 GB hard drive, 3 GB RAM for under $1,000 (CDN). Nobody even comes close to that. For another $100 - if I could find one - they throw in a Blu-ray drive. HP and Dell will be scrambling trying to compete with this one!

I think the Gateway model for $1200 (can never remember the series) would beat the 6920 series
