Or is the way the 9100 designed, you are stuck with the card that came with it? ... and only the XPS is upgradable?
If it is indeed replaceable, what does a new top of the line mobile card run...
Also, i don't think i mean to say "card" sorry
For all intents and purposes the i9100 is as upgradeable as the XPS, its just that it doesn't have Dell supported upgrades for graphics....... that is, if you want to upgrade the card you'll have to do it yourself. But it is possible so don't worry about that.
However, the catch is that unlike desktop cards, you must get one in the specific form factor utilised by the i9100, because its different for just about every laptop. So your upgrade in the future must be a Dell card, made in the correct form factor, so of course this limits the options.
But Since Dell are offering the upgradeable graphics in the XPS you would have to expect at least one new graphics card being offered in the future, though I would expect a couple (for example, the i8600 went through three for its top-of-the-line offering.... the GF4 4200go, FX 5650 and the MR9600PT, and many more for its "lower-end" graphics options).
As far as price, who knows? A MR9600PT and the FX5650 both run about US$230 + shipping from spare parts, and the Quadro workstation cards >US$300. I am not sure if the new form factor would affect the prices much at all, because of all the ports in the back, but I would expect a new card for the i9100/ XPS to be around the US$300 mark. Pure guesswork here by the way. Cheers,
