Cheating the benchmark...

Hi there everyone,
Something i thought you might be interested in.. I bought my HP530 laptop (Top of that particular range) and when it came the "Windows Experiance Index" was 2. This is low, however after a few updates and an extra 512mb of RAM. It shot up to 5.0.
This made me think that there must be a way to "hack" the file that displayed what the "Windows Experiance Index" is. After a bit of research I found a way to do it, and since this is a computer " geeks " forum thought people might enjoy this one. It basically means you can fool your friends into thinking your computer, or laptop is better than it actually is, so if your having any compititions, it beats going out and spending $$$$ on new hardware.
Im not sure whether to post these instructions or not on this site, don't know the rules too well.
How many people would be interested in me posting the instructions? And how many think its a waste of time?
Thanks
Max

Hmm so long as there is nothing illegal in your instructions you should be fine. However if there are any illegal activities it will be deleted.

I am however going to move this post to a more appropriate section, as this has nothing that I can see to do with Linux.

Sorry, Im already subscribed haha!
Well for that reason I will post them, delete them if anythings wrong, nothing should be though...

1. You need to update your score, if you do not know how, click the link below.
http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2135/...formance_score

2. Open the Windows Explorer and find yourself the Windows directory and open it.
3. Open the performance file, and then you should see a file called Winsat, open this too.
4. You will see a few XML files, use the most recent one.
5. Right Click, Properties.
6. Then Security Tab
7. Then Edit.
8. Select your username, if its not there, create it, and click full control checkbox in the allow collum.
9. You should be able to modify the XML file now, remember to select the most recent one that you made prior to this.
10. Right click the XML file and select open with WORDPAD.. not NOTEPAD
11. Press Ctrl + F and then type in WinSPR.
12. You should see the scores below and then its quite self explanitory, just remember its determined by your lowest subscore.
13. After editing just hit save and exit the document, check your subscore to see if it has worked.

Please note, do this at your own risk. Nothing should go wrong, but just incase, make a restore point.

Let me know how you get on.
