Ok, I needed to replace the case on my m9700 due to a mean drop occurring last month. Everything seemed to go fine with rebuilding the machine. Now, it turns on but the screen does not. Both the gpu and cpu fan power. Any idea where to start?

You try hooking it up to a monitor to see if the GPU and CPU are actually working at all? Just because the fans work does not mean the rest is.

now it wont even power on.. yikes. When I plug in the adapter, i get no lights.... This seems like a motherboard problem!!

You could have a cracked mobo if you really dropped it as hard as you say. You could contact AW but if you are out of warrenty take it to a local shop have them do a few circuit tests to see if its the mobo.

I apologize for the spam of messages, but I am getting power again, still nothing on the screen.

take the battery out and unplug it and leave it off for a minute and then plug the power back in and leave the battery out and try that...and see if the screen will show anything... also is ur mouse powering up....

I dont believe the mobo had a problem before this, as I was using the system fine with the damaged case. My mouse is not getting power. And it appears that the only way I can get the system to boot is if I leave it unplugged for a minute or two, then plug it back in

then it could be you hard drive... not booting to the windows... my m9750 did that too me... and i had to move my boot sequences on my hard drive to keep it from doing it... i had the same exact issue... if u can get it to turn on put in ur alienware cd and try to get a c prompt and run scan disk for hard drive errors...

Hmm thats a thought!

if u have a bad boot sector then call alienware for them to walk u through moving ur boot sector...

Actually, the hard drive can be ruled out as I used an old laptop hard drive that did not work (i had upgraded to dual 80 gigs from a 60 gig)
are both 80 gigs in raid or is one a slave drive...
