Those wanting Extreme Edition computing power for less than $1000 can either overclock a Q9450 (2.66 GHz stock) which will arrive later this quarter or keep their money until Q3 when Intel is planning to introduce the Q9650.

Just as the QX9650, the upcoming Q9650 will have four cores clocked at 3.0 GHz, an 1333 MHz FSB and 12 MB of L2 cache but its advantage will come from the price tag which is set to be significantly lower - although we can't really estimate it will go down to $530.

The way I read it - they are just dropping the X from the name....turning it into a mainstream CPU. Going from a black box to a blue box is worth at least $500.

Well by the time I'm ready to built (based on X48 availability) this still doesn't seem like it will happen. I honestly don't mind spending $1000 on this CPU.
