If it's _just_ for text editing and browsing the web, consider a refurnished / second hand thinkpad T40, I got by using one for over a year now and I can't complain. It's build quality is great, performence is more then sufficient for what I've mentioned and they're dirt cheap compared to the new ones. Of course it won't run Vista or any new games... Or play movies in blu-ray quality. Still IMO a good option for the portable laptop to use in school or work, not a terrible loss if it gets borken or stolen.
I'm currently looking for a more 'multimedia' laptop rihgt now, being my less mobile alternative for the T40. I'm considering a HP nx9420 due to the 17" screen, radeon x1600, and great value for money. BTW how will it wirk when faced with modern games ? Obviously I wouldn't expect it to play crysis smoothly, but other then that will it do ?
