Got my ChemBook 2056! - Page 6

do any of you guys know that if the motherboard supports PC3200 400mhz ram?
just wondering , since hypersonic does.
hypersonic puts that in there so ppl think their notebooks are better quality

the current banias (1.4-1.7ghz pentium-m) is not capable of taking advantage of anything higher than pc2700 memory...

the dothans with 533fsb will make use of ddr2 pc3200 tho (not out till sept this year)

so to make it short, u can put in pc3200 memory, but the laptop will only make use of pc2700... in some cases having pc3200 in a laptop that will only use pc2700... causes performance to decrease coz of latency

Keep in mind this my first notebook. I find the laptop to be very quiet actually and the noise issue is very important to me. In a quiet room I can barely here it unless I put my ear really close to the unit. The noisiest thing about it is the DVD-CD/RW drive. Sometimes you can hear the hard drive making little sounds, but it's very tolerable. And if you game for awhile the fan will come on, but the fan is not that bad (but it is loud).

The one thing that irritates me the most is how HOT it can get! But I have used other notebooks before and this one doesn't get any hotter than the rest.

I know I am extreamly sensitive to noise and I can defintely hear this notebook even from 10 feet away, it's not loud, but it's not dead silent. I don't know what makes that noise though. I don't feel the fan blowing any air, but yet there is that constant noise which is hard to describe. If it's not a fan then it could be hard drive, but it does coming out of the fan air. Arg...

As far as heat, it gets hot just like any other notebook once you start playing games, but most of the time it stays nice and cool.

Ok, I am confirming that noise is coming out of Hitachi HD, hm... well hopefully once they replace my notebook i will have a new HD as well.

when it gets hot... do u mean the laptop itself? of so, where?

i know the 8335 would heat up on teh right palm rest and on the bottom left side

(i'd only feel the bottom left side if the laptop was on my leg)

so how loud is the noise? u can hear it from 10 feet away? :/

can anyone else confirm this noise

the 8335... there is none of that...

rince-

I can't hear my notebook from ten feet away. If it's just sitting there idle, I can't hear a damn thing. But with web browsing, ms word, and e-mailing the hitachi hd makes small amounts of noise (this is normal for hard drives to make some noise when active), but the amount of noise is so minute I have to be actively listening to hear it.

Klas- It sounds like you might have defective hd or something if your're hearing things from ten feet away from your laptop. Mine is unbelievably quiet.

The air vent on the right side doesn't bother me either, not once has my hand came in contact with the air pushing out of the vent (which is only during heavy 3d graphics usage or gaming). I use an external mouse too and my hand never ventures that high near the air vent.

Overall, I really am impressed with this notebook. What made me decide to keep it is really how quiet I have found it to be. Additionally I love typing on this thing. I know most people don't like typing on laptop keyboards, but I love this keyboard more than my deskop keyboard supplied by FNW.

The only problems I have with it is the space bar is a bit bowed inward and I have two small areas of the backlight issue. Both of these issues will be taken care of by the distributor I went through at their expense including shipping. They informed me that if the issues were fundamental problems, they would be replacing the unit for another brand new one. I hope these issues are fixable as these are the only two problems I have, plus I have no dead pixels on this unit. It would suck to get a new unit, but have dead pixels on it.

chu

yes thats exactly how my a64 sounded

i could only hear the HD when it was in use... but even then it was very quiet

i think klas has a bad HD...

hearing a laptop 10 feet away is bad and not what i want when im taking notes in my lecture hall

ok that settles it im ordering the compal56... its suppose to be real quiet, excellent battery life, latest and best laptop gpu, and decent cpu power which can be upgraded later

the onlydownside right now is the color

(i love silver)

but in time i will fix all that
lets pray i get 0 dead pixels like the 0 dead pixels i got with my a64 (which im sadly returning)

oh another downside is the non leather free case... the leather case that came with the a64 was really excellent.... oh and i forgot that mobilemeter doesnt work with this laptop (cant read cpu speed/temp/battery discharge)
but i guess those are minor and might be fixed in a bios update...
chu one more question

when u game... i know hot air gets expelled out

but does the laptop itself get hot anywhere? bottom? sides? keyrests?

also, when ur idling or doing general use, how often does the fan kick in? or does it not do it at all?

i know my a64 would kick in its fan every 15 minutes if the laptop was just sitting there or if i were using it...
umm it seems most of tis chembook 2056 has the backlight issues, but what exactly the harm will do for the backlight issue besides makin you feel uncomfortable? will it defect the lcd later on of use or what?

the fan doesnt kick in for general use. only when you game. I guess it's not just backlight for me, it's 4 things. backlight, touchpad, hard drive, dvd/cdrw.
lol whats wrong with your dvd/cdrw?? seems every pieces of problem fall on your lappy

i can't say for sure it's the problem of a laptop, but it has problems reading some burned DVDs I have (Newegg DVDs). What weird part was, it read it once and then stopped reading it at all. It's fine reading like DVD movies
post #116 of 245
I see well, i don't have any burnt dvd so i cant really test out mine eventhou my regular dvd disc runs fine.

However there's this one thing really buggin me alot, I know the speakers are really crapy as we've spoken of...but whenever i have the volume adjusted to the max I get this sudden buzzing hizzing sound from whatever music / dvd I'm playing...just wondering any body have the same issue? its really irrertating.

i hate the speakers as much as you do, don't expirience that problem, but you know I don't expect everything to be in one package, so I use either external speakers or headphones
post #118 of 245
