I can't hear my notebook from ten feet away. If it's just sitting there idle, I can't hear a damn thing. But with web browsing, ms word, and e-mailing the hitachi hd makes small amounts of noise (this is normal for hard drives to make some noise when active), but the amount of noise is so minute I have to be actively listening to hear it.
Klas- It sounds like you might have defective hd or something if your're hearing things from ten feet away from your laptop. Mine is unbelievably quiet.
The air vent on the right side doesn't bother me either, not once has my hand came in contact with the air pushing out of the vent (which is only during heavy 3d graphics usage or gaming). I use an external mouse too and my hand never ventures that high near the air vent.
Overall, I really am impressed with this notebook. What made me decide to keep it is really how quiet I have found it to be. Additionally I love typing on this thing. I know most people don't like typing on laptop keyboards, but I love this keyboard more than my deskop keyboard supplied by FNW.
The only problems I have with it is the space bar is a bit bowed inward and I have two small areas of the backlight issue. Both of these issues will be taken care of by the distributor I went through at their expense including shipping. They informed me that if the issues were fundamental problems, they would be replacing the unit for another brand new one. I hope these issues are fixable as these are the only two problems I have, plus I have no dead pixels on this unit. It would suck to get a new unit, but have dead pixels on it.
