it's not a big deal as long as it's not defective, any other way to find out?

okay just got my new replacement today, and there seems no backlight issue on this one only i think on bottom right edge there's tiny bit of backlight which barely noticeble and i guess i can live with it.

About the Space key on the keyboard, Ive just noticed from what CHU mentioned that the right side it is a little bit upward then the left side (of course i had to view it horizontally from my eyes to the keyboard to see that)

I pretty much have the same parts on it from last laptop since all my files are in it and same GPU with my previous overclocked speed, I think all they've done is replace to new chasis and lcd. and oh yeah my Centrino sticker is GONE lol.

that's about it ..and ohh no dead pixels either.

well I have the same problem, but it's minor thing.

Might want to hit ATI's site or do a google search to see what the specs are on it. I'm not familiar with the speeds of the mobile chips, so I couldn't tell you if it's at spec or not.

my gpu successfuly runs at 420 and 220 just ran another 3dmark03 got score of 2990..im happy enough...now im bothered shoud i email em up for the centrino sticker? well its got pentium M sticker and xp sticker..itd be nice to have all three hah

CHU about your lcd gap, id suggest you see if the lcd panel lose or anything, maybe try snap it or squeeze in front and back at bottom middle see if that tighten up the bracket...

again the space bar at right side do curve up a little, but ive no problem at all typing or spaceing it ..its still doing its job

now im certainly happy about this laptop...im mean really you cant actually expect a flawless perfect one, not even if you throw in 4k on voodoo's, or Sager (which i owned it for couple months with stress crack issue on lcd hinge), and alienware or dell with its loud fan/heating.

so anyways, don't worry be happy!

allright, after thinking it over, I contacted reseller about returning the laptop, but then I decided to give them another chance to replace the board this time. I really like this laptop and I do want to keep it.

ur returnning it again? fo rwhat reason?

I am not returning, but would like to replace the board and the reason is that something is wrong with my vid card, if it freezes even slightly above stock settings.

that is pretty amazing, that they will replace just b/c it won't overclock.

i am not going to overclock it, I just think there is something wrong with it if it doesn't. Wouldn't you?

as far as backlight issue, the reseller said that all the laptops he has in his shop have backlight problem to some degree...

i definitely see your point. i'm just surprised they would replace it just for that reason. (imagines calling Dell and asking them to replace card b/c it won't o/c. )

Why would you or anyone want a system with an initial video defect??

it's hard to say if it's a defect or not, because it runs games just fine without a glitch at stock...

i didn't mention that of course and backlight issue is not that bad on this one, but it is there...

So, get something different, from them or somebody else. The Compal56 was one of the ones I have considered and "blown off". I wouldn't take a chance on getting one with the backlight problem (and it sounds like close to all of them have it, if not all of them) and I wanted better sounding built-in speakers. Plus, I am not crazy about the "different keyboard" layout on the 56. You are NOT happy, that is obvious, so, if you are within your return period, pay the shipping and get something different.
If not, you are probably going to be living with it for a couple years. I would NOT, absolutely NOT let them replace the motherboard on a brand new unit!! NEVER, EVER!! The replacement you get will be refurbished parts, which came out of someone else's "problem" system, and they may, or may NOT have found what was wrong with it. A customer has an intermittent problem, they replace the motherboard, and they never find the problem. Where does that motherboard go...into the stock of refurbished parts!! It all depends on the QA department at the manufacturer in question, but, it is a crapshoot at best. Refurbished (read USED) parts should be a last resort, not something you go to in the first 30 days. Ever. I just got finished proving that Dell has a junkpile that their "refurbished" screens come out of. They don't know the good ones from the bad ones. You are NOT going to get a brand new motherboard from them. Doesn't matter what they tell you, it will be a refurb.
Again, don't do it!!
(just my opinion)

allright Andrew, after reading your post I got a little upset about this whole situation, so I e-mailed my reseller again and withdrew my request for repair. (he probably hates me by now) Sending it back...
