I believe thats old news.

Read the newest articles. http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=21506

Seems like the heat issue is much more minimal.

oh ok

yea this info is more current

On the 10th of May, 2004, Intel is expected to unveil Dothan processors at clock-speeds of 2.00GHz, 1.80GHz and 1.70GHz. The products will be branded as Pentium M 755, Pentium M 745 and Pentium M 735 respectively. The new Intel Pentium M processors will contain 140 million of transistors and will devour about 21W of power, sources told X-bit labs. Such power consumption is lower compared to today’s high-end Pentium M by about 3.5W, though, the information contradicts data from some notebook makers, who believed that Dothan will be more energy hungry.

Thanks to the 90nm process technology, Dothan’s die size will be 83.6 square millimeters - only slightly more compared to Banias chip’s die size. Banias is produced using more mature 130nm fabrication technology.

The first three Pentium M “Dothan” SKUs – 755, 745 and 735 – will be available in May for the price of $637, $423 and $294 per unit in business quantities respectively. In June Intel Corp. is projected to broaden the mobile 90nm offerings with Pentium M 725 and 715 SKUs.

Along with the introduction of the new chips, Intel will lower the prices on existing Pentium M processors at 1.70GHz, 1.60GHz and 1.50GHz to $294, $241 and $209 from today’s $423, $294 and $241 respectively.

so has anyone gotten their compal 56 / chembook / powerbook

to work fully with mobile meter?

i find it hard to bleive that there are no sensors for the cpu and battery discharge

u say theyre is only a reading for your hd? what temperatures does it run at when booting up, idling, and under gaming load
post #84 of 245
Well, 2 things:

1. my panel looks perfect. I tried to find a flaw in it, other than 1 dead pixel (always on in green color), but its perfect.

2. I can't get mobile meter to show anything but the HDD temp as well.

taken from mobilemeter english read me as of 2/16/04

"ACPI must be implemented. (This is true for most fairly new PCs.)
ACPI must be used for CPU temperature control. This may be true depending on how the system is designed. This is not true in most desktop PCs, but true in some laptop PCs.
The system must be designed to obtain the correct battery status information in order for this utility to show the battery charge/discharge rate.
HDD must be connected directly to the on-board IDE controller and designed to return the temperature in order for this utility to show the HDD temperature.
MobileMeter relies on the OS for obtaining the CPU temperature. This functionality may be affected by certain OS behaviors and sometimes screwed up by the Service pack installation.

scroll down under 2060

the motherboard is nto ACPI - ready
i dont know if it can be upgraded later w/ bios changes or if its a hardware thing

hmm im reading off itnels website that the 855 chipset does not take advantage of x8 agp video cards... its limited to x4agp

is this true?

yes it's true, but it's already been established that 8x agp is not fully used in current graphic cards. Anyway, you seem would like to have high performance notebook, so I would keep your AMD64, to me portability was a big plus and this is probably the only notebook out there that has great performance in a smaller package. If you want performance I would get the desktop... I am actually selling my month old custom build AMD64 machine anyone interested?

I just realized that I forgot to add in my review about the ghosting in this monitor... which doesn't appear to be exist. I am very picky when it comes to LCD screens and I even have that new 20 inch Dell 2001FP that has 16 ms RT and I just don't see any ghosting on that laptop. I've tried a dozen of different games and it's been always a pleasant experience...
no ghosting on the a64 lcd either

it was more colorful then my crt as well... but only at the correct viewing angle

my other real issue is the noise/heat

when the a64 was @ a scaled down 800mhz to reserve power, it would not require its fan to be activated... the cpu would remain cool at 40c and the fan would kick in every 15 minutes to keep it that way...

the fan itself under full load was very quiet, quieter than my desktop...

do u got im

can i talk tou about teh noise
i was looking over your pics on first page

and i was wondering if teh top of the laptop (back part of the lcd) is shiney/glossy or is the paint the same all around the laptop

also, where is the wireless switch on this laptop?
does it have a lil switch anywhere to adjust the volume up/down?

the a64 has a lil circular thing u can spin to adjust volume near hte front
convienent

it's not glossy or shiny, you are looking at the film that was attached on top, it's blue on top and black at the bottom.

wireless switch is on the right hand side next to PCMCI, no switch to adjust volume though, but It's not a big deal i can do it with a function key.

just run Painkiller demo #2 and i was getting like 60+ FPS

can u post more pics of the free carrying case? is it leather?
