I feel your pain, try calling XPS support in the morning time. That is what I finaly did and it worked wonders.

I have tried in the morning, afternoon, evening, late night, and EARLY morning (i.e. 1-3AM).

None of it's been helpful, unfortunately. I'm hoping at least ONE of the people I contacted today will do something about this.

You guys can really talk, it took me about 45 min to read this whole thread

And passing off a 1720 as a replacement for a gaming laptop is just bananas

Well I moved up to a 7950 gtx, and it is a HUGE improvement. I am very very happy with my new system.

Escalations told me that they can't even order the 8800 sli as a part because of the stock situation.

When they place the order they get an e-mail from dispatch saying it's not possible, send the 8700. So that may be why you are getting such resistance.

Well a couple people, myself included, just had our 8800M GTX SLIs ship 2/15 so they might have some in stock. I would try again, you might have better luck this time.

I read a journalistic report on how Dell builds computers and the stock process. It seems they are instructed to steer people away from parts that are low in stock. Generally, the user is upgraded for free (ie, higher HD capacity or RPM), but in this case that's obviously not an option.

I don't think pushing is any longer going to get people very far any longer, it is apparent to me that after the large amount of push for the M1730...they decided that they cannot keep handing out the best of the best to all customers.

I have a standing case with my Escalations rep, he said to keep an eye out for when the website says there is no longer a delay when building a 1730 w/ an 8800.

OK... I got my M1730 today. Was kinda surprised because according to the order details, wouldn't ship until the 21st.

Opened it up to be greeted by the M1730. But, once I started looking at it, it became obvious that this thing was used, and not lightly either. Scratches all over the LCD lid, on the LCD itself, on the palmrest, and all over the bottom. Sticker residue on the palmrest and LCD itself, a couple of small, pinhead-sized chips out of the casing itself right under the DVD drive, and finally, no Service Tag sticker. Only a "Certified Refurbished" sticker.

What a load of crap. The guy that I e-mailed called me back on SATURDAY morning at 7AM and I haven't been able to reach him since. I left a voicemail on Saturday once I saw that I missed the call, called yesterday (Monday) and he was busy, was told I'd receive a callback, never did, and finally, called today, and he's out to lunch... So, we'll see... But I'm FURIOUS.

I'm still fighting with Dell about the SINGLE 8700GT in my M1730. Unlike Tony mine was new, and no signs of a refurb sticker on it. I'm pissed at the fact that I asked for the correct spare AC Adapter and I got a 1710 adapter, no signs of the backpack replacement, and I don't have Bluetooth in the 1730 when I had it in my 1710.

that really sucks! my 1730 was also a refurb, but in really good shape. one small scratch across the lid was all. your service tag sticker should be underneath the battery compartment when you take the battery out though. thats where i found mine.

At least yours turned on, mine was missing half the ram, the HDD, and the charging cable... Did they outsource the refurb depo too?
