Choppy?

Alright, I'll try to make it short.

Starting a couple days ago, the computer seemed to be slowing down a little bit, and not shutting down properly, leading me to a forced improper shut down (by holding down power button).

Today, I came back to my computer, turned it on as usual, but the Windows loading page seemed to prolong for much longer than usual. And then after ~3 minutes Windows was fully loaded. However, everything I did felt quite choppy, and again, could not shut the computer down properly. So I forced it down.

Thinking that it was a virus, I reformatted the computer, but the same problem persists (extremely choppy, and cannot load applications because they freeze) What could possibly be wrong?

Since formatting did not solve the problem, I was thinking hardware (such as harddrive or damaged RAM)? Maybe I should also mention that my laptop gives off a lot of heat.

All you computer experts out that, please help out this NOOB!

Thanks!

Did you made some settings on BIOS? And what is the last thing you did to your computer before this problem become noticed?

EDIT: Also report some of your computer CPU, RAM, VIDEO and CHIPSET info. One thing occured to me is that your HDD maybe failling. Download a diskdiagnostic program at WesternDigital http://support.wdc.com/download/inde...pid=999&swid=3 and do a full disk scan.

The last thing I did before the problem occured was improper shutdown.
My laptop is a dual core, 1.8ghz, with ati radeon 9300. The thing about diskdiagnostic program is that now, after another improper shut down (computer kept on freezing), I cannot load any kind of applications, as they will freeze the system.

Any ideas based on such?

Tried boot to safe mode? There should be something hogging it or prevent it from running. Did you tried to disconnect any kinds of USB including LAN cable before shut it down? And on the Task Manager>Performance, how many Processes is running?

You did tried to install new drivers right?

Sounds like a PIO/DMA issue to me. Check this thread:

Troubleshooting: Enabling/Checking DMA in Windows Vista, XP . . . .
