Snap Crackle and Pop in my laptop?

For some odd reason my laptop seems to make a funny pop sound. It occurs in the back of the left side of the 1705. I thought originally it was an audio thing, but it also did it on bootup and it will sometimes do it idiling on windows. Im not sure if this is due to the weather as i have this thing only a few feet from the window and actually our wood on out doors sometimes makes a crackling noise due to the changing weather. Its not a huge issue, but you can hear it when it happens and for some reason I fear it could be an audio issue, or something hardware related. It seems to take place near the 'lock' mechanism where you might insert a lock to keep the thieves away but it occurs for now on the left side of the laptop. After i come back from class I will try some things to fix it. We have been having a lot of problems in the building with internet, cable interference and odd noises coming from the walls so maybe its just this brand new building going to hell who knows.

My other guess would be when certain parts heat up (CPU,GPU) but they are running idle now at 55 and 60.

But any ideas would be much appreciated.

Stop eating cereal and then pouring milk on your computer man

Other than that, I've never heard of this problem. I doubt it's heat cycling though, magnesium under changing heat rarely make the pops that a wooden piece of furniture would make. It makes me think that it's the plastic, I know with both my new LCD and old CRT after being turned off (cooled down) they crackle quite a bit, although they do not crackle heating up which makes me thing it may not be heat related

Have you recently played with the HS of your CPU? If not you may want to just re-seat the HS of it and then try again, maybe it is close enough to the frame that when it heats up and expands it sorta clicks up against the frame

thanks for the reply guys.

I reinstalled windows and the sigmatel driver. It doesnt seem to do it as much but im just going to wait a few days i wonder iif itll come back. I dont think the HS is touching on the plastic but i will double check (and i just put this thing back together.)

The sound seems to be fine, but its just the laptop is making the sounds from those darned kellogs commercials.

In that case, it's definitely speaker/sound related. Not sure why it would still be doing it back there, but maybe the sub is just making it sound like it's coming from the back left of the computer

well know that I have thought about this for a bit, There is one possibliity I can think of,

If the Audio Amp is crapping out, it could make exactly this kind of noise, when it heats up.

You should grab a spoon and start eating it before it gets all mushy.

Could be, obviously popping from the HD is not a good sign

If your software runs normally, I don't think it could be more than malfunctioning speakers or things creaking from the heat for some reason. I hope it gets fixed.
