Yea the guy should be coming today (Wed) but Im a bit skeptical, I have a bad feeling that the new one will like BSOD like nuts or something.

Now that I pay closer attention, it seems the screen also does it, but there dont really appear to be any problems with it as far as displaying the images.

But still even with the screen, it doesnt explain the noises under the palmrest.

Its just a minor inconvience, im actually kind of over it, but maybe the new MOBO will fix it, but Im skeptical of refurbs, espically MOBO's which are the heart and soul of a computer.

Im actually gona ask the tech to hang around for about 5 mins to see if the new one takes kindly to the rest of the machine.

Well I got the new mobo, it still seems to do it, but mostly from the screen. Ive heard a few from under the palmrest, but it doesnt seem to be as often as before.

It came back last nite and I had done this prior to the noises.

1. Copied a CD over to my HD to iTunes.
2. Defragged the HD. (and there was nothing really to defrag)

I noticed it after defragging the HD, but ive never really had a problem with this HD b4 as far as loading and stuff. Also, it doesnt explain as to why the screen is still doing it.

Honestly, I dont mind when it comes from the screen, but when it happens under the palmrest I get upset becasue I dont know where or whats causing the noise.

So now Im thinking the screen, possibly DVD drive, and the hD.

Also Ive noticed the DVD drive green light isnt on 24/7 its just turns green when i open/close it (im not sure if that was the case before or if me flashing the A09 BIOS did that, Im just mapping out changes)

The DVD drive operatoin sounds normal, it should be green only when accessed

still makes the noise with my hd, and now it is louder and more frequent. frustrating

Why don't you guys take the computers apart and try and pinpoint where the sound is coming from? unplug something and run the computer, unplug something else and run the computer, eventually you should find out where the sound is coming from.

Process of elimination.

At times it comes from everywhere. It will be on the left, then the right,in the center, in the back, and its a new mobo so I dont really know. Unless the screen is causing the noises to spread like cancer?

Could it be thre AS5 lol??? Just makin up stuff now

cant exactly run the computer when it is apart. i know what it is, but i am unable to convince dell it is actually making any noise

it is the circuitry under the palm rest, for my wifes anyway. it happens sometimes apparently. there is a fix out there for the problem, but i am not happy about having to use a 3rd party program to regulate the cpu idle or whatever it does
