I hope nothng goes wrong woth your Gateway. If you think you had a hard time getting Dell to give you a refund, just wit til you have problems with your Gateway.
I have owned many different laptops, and Dell is by FAR the best company when it comes to support and making things right.
I'm sorry that Dell didn't give you a "top of the line performance" laptop as a replacement to the "bang for your buck" laptop that you originaly purchased. Fact is, you got a better laptop as a replacement. I bet if you made a pros and cons list you would see it too.
My opinion, Dell made you a good offer: full refund with purchase of an XPS ad 10% off of that XPS, you would be a fool not to take it, a fool.
