computer shuts down when i unplug

I'm very confused why my computer does this. I just got a brand new battery with about 3-4 hours battery life and it is charging and running well. But for some reason when I've been running on A/C power and then unplug my computer and it switches to battery, the computer reads that as a sign to shut off, which it does (even though the battery is fully charged and I can restart on battery alone). I had this problem with my old battery too. Now, it doesn't happen every time I unplug, but often enough that it's really annoying the heck out of me. I checked my battery contacts and they seemed alright. Everything else seems to be working properly. Can any of think of a reason why this might happen?

I would exchange the battery for a new one.

. tried removing the power connection to the ac before removing it from the laptop?
. tried another ac adapter?

Guys you think the OS doesn't reconise the computer is a laptop? Which mean if it doesn't there's no battery power management installed. But i don't know.

It sounds like you might be having an electrical problem. Is your adapter connected to an outlet or a power adapter? I'd suggest getting a new AC power supply. My guess is that their is a surge of electricity that it ignited when there's friction made between the tip of the ac adapter plug and the hole where it goes into the laptop. It seems farfetched, but that's what I think the problem might be. Also try not to play around with the power supply (unplugging it, plugging it back in) cause you might fry your mobo! Good luck
