thermal tape?

does anyone know where i can get some replacement thermal tape for this machine? i cant seem to find any in stock anywhere

also, i really could use a picture of someones machine to figure out where exactly i need to put the tape (it all seemed to have shift out of place so i don't know where it was originally placed).

i really don't want to risk running it without the tape, any help with either of these problems would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys... boy do i wish i could afford a new box.. this 8790 has been nothing but a pain these past 4 years.

Which part of the laptop do you need tape for? Under the keyboard, the processor & video card, etc.?

yes, just underneath the keyboard. i basically threw it all away because it had shifted and was covered in dust/junk. even if i could find a place to buy thermal tape (which i cant) i wouldn't know where to put it because it seems there where 4 or more pieces and i can only see maybe 2 spots it should have gone (one being the GPU). my processor seems just fine (i've been cleaning it out every month since i got it).

I'm pretty sure I haven't replaced my original thermal tape. I'll take pics for you as soon as I get a spare moment.

that would be really appreciated, thanks!

now that these machines are getting older, this might not be bad information to have anyway.

Okay, it looks like I did replace some of the tape...But here's what mine looks like. I took the metal plate underneath the keyboard and flipped it over and around.

The three imprinted squares within the black sheeting all go directly on top of chips on the mobo. The ones on the side (far right in the pic) come with thermal tape from the factory. I applied thermal paste to the top square but before I did that it looked the same as the other one. The bottom square still has the factory tape. The diagonal square, as far as I know, did not come with thermal tape. Can another 8790 owner confirm this? There is also a strip of thermal tape for each of the imprints on the far outside of the plate, which can be seen on the mobo to the far left of the pic.

The rectangle-shape has beige-colored foamy tape on it, and rests on the line of beige chips on the mobo. I have no clue what those chips are, but the tape doesn't seem to have much by way of thermal transfer benefits, so the tape is probably just to keep the chips from having direct contact with the hard metal plate.
