M9700 FPS Questions...

Hi, I bought my M9700 about 9 months ago, YES I wish I had waited for the M9750! anyway. The only game I play now is World of Warcraft specs are:

- SLI 7900GS 256mb cards
- 2 gigs of ram
- ML-42 2.4ghz CPU

I've checked for updated drivers and couldn't find any, this game is not that graphics intense from what I've been told, but if I turn everything up I only get 20-25fps. Am I asking to much from this $2400 pc? this sucks my buddy has a desktop with an 8400 video card and is getting more than 60fps!

Later,
Jake

You should try newer drivers.

Go to laptopvideo2go.com, download the latest driver and the modified INF file that goes with it. Unzip the driver, then put the modified INF file into the driver folder and install the vid drivers.

I loaded the beta drivers from AW's website for the m9750 yesterday, so far it works fine also... so far.

Comparing a laptop to a desktop is like comparing bicycle to a motorcycle...
Also, you should try going to the For sale section of this forum if you haven't:

Actually VCW, the m9700 with dual 256mb cards will outperform an 8400 gpu. The only aspect of the m9700 that lags behind todays desktop machines is the CPU which is just a sorry single core turion. I'm sure however that once Jake does some updating of his video drivers and does some tweaking that he will be smooth sailing.

Check your cpu driver. I had the same problem. I noticed in device manager it showed microsoft as the driver. I dowmloaded the 1.3.2.0 amd version on alienware went from 5400 to 8100 on 3dmark05. not sure why alien didnt ihave that driver installed when I received it.

Hmm. I defraged my HD and and looked for some more drivers, the driver I have installed for my CPU is 1.3.2.0 already should I try to reinstall it? On AW'
s website it says you have to unistall the old driver before installing the new one is this true?

Also Hammerhead could u link me to the drivers you downloaded off mobilevideo2go.com? I dont enough about my system to find the ones on that website, lol

Thanks,
Jake

Yes, you should remove the cpu driver before installing a new one. If your system came with the 1.2 cpu driver, remove it, then install 1.3.2.0.

Download Driver Cleaner Pro, it's free, and it will remove the AMD drivers for you. Also use it to get rid of old Nvidia drivers for a clean vid driver install. Don't remove the nForce Nvidia drivers, they're for the SLI chipset.

As for the Nvidia drivers, go here.

Download the driver you want, and download the modified INF file next to it. Unzip the drivers, then put the modified INF file into the driver folder and install.

Is there a CPU driver for vista because I've reinstalled vista and I haven't installed one, the CPU driver alienware gave me on the support disk is for XP which is stupid but I can't seem to find a new one

JakedaSnake, How'd this turn out for you? I'm getting horrible FPS on Counter Strike: Source! I reformatted, reinstalled and still same thing. Thought it was probably the processer but it'd used to run games great. So just curious how this turned out for you.

your proc is pretty weak, you might investigate if you can install a 50 or 60 series, socket compatible, wattage, thermals/cooling etc

If you can you'll prolly notice a decent performance boost

How do i know which nforce driver is the correct one without paying the 30 bucks for driverAgent to do it for me?

Taking off the back panel and taking a few lent free wipes and Q-tips to clean out the dust has driven my FPS back to normal many times. You might want to try that. I currently only have 1 GPU and I get a around 50 fps. Try cleaning it ^^
