Was anyone able to purchase 8800m GTX upgrade kit for their M1730 ?

Thanks!

Mean after they already have the M1730 in their possession? From what I've heard and read, Dell has started selling "upgrade" kits to people, but I don't think any have shipped yet. The majority of their stock is probably being held for people who buy M1730s new and chose the SLI 8800m GTX upgrade.

you're telling me. I am getting the 8800M GTX SLI as an exchange for my 8700M GT SLI that I have now and the original order was placed on 1/29 only to be canceled on 1/31. I was told that he placed the order from new parts on accident and had to reorder it from refurb parts but said that since they just started selling the cards that I would be receiving new parts. There were scheduled to ship tomorrow but the order was canceled today and reordered through new parts and now has an estimated ship date of 2/13 and delivery date of 2/14. yesterday when i emailed my rep to let him know that the tech who is supposed to come out and install my cards has not called yet ( He asked me to email him if I did not receive a call by 2/4 ) and he told me that the cards are on backorder and he doesnt not know when they will be back in stock but would be checking every day until they do and will let me know what happens. I guess they got some in since he canceled my order and put in a new one. I will let you all know when they ship.

Did your part numbers change by chance?

Yea, let me know.
I have a friend at Dell looking for it as well. Hopefully someone will figure out how the hell to order that thing.

Probably they have the 8800m GTX in first hand for new customers who orders the system with the 8800m GTX in SLI. I actually sent back my Dell M1730 with the 8700m GT SLI and ordered a new one with 4GB ram instead of 2 and the 8800m GTX in SLI. I had my Dell for only one week anyway before they announced the 8800m GTX.

I just talked to my rep and he had this to say;
The part number your friend needs to order is SKU# 320-6384.
He said the reason some of you have not been able to order it is cause they are currently on back order and once they get more in stock you should be able to order them then. If anyone has any luck let us know but that is the part number you guys need to order if you want the 8800M GTX SLI, it is $1000 btw.

Damn.. I tried that part number with parts yesterday and they said it didn't exist in their system. My friend at dell also looked up that part and couldn't find it, along with the part a dell rep supplied me with.

Is he looking in a specific parts database? Refurb possibly?

No that number is for new parts. It may not be in the system cause they are on backorder. you may have to wait till they have them in stock and then at that time I bet it will show up in the system. once my card ships it will mean they have them in stock and I will post when it ships, at that time I would try again if you were not able to get one ordered by then.

One grand for two 8800GTX cards really isn't THAT bad of a deal.
Yah, but considering total cost of the M1730 who paid retail going up by 1k, it's a lot.
Well even if you bought two 8800GTX desktop cards for any system as an upgrade it'll be more than $1k, depending on what brand 8800GTX you go with.

Im almost ready to give up on the 1730 and look squarely at a M51x Ive had nothing but nightmares with this system. I think the best thing I could do is sell it and move onto to a better notebook Hard for me to say considering how long Ive had DELL as a primary machine but after the 1705 its been downhill for me personally.

True, but those 2x 8800GTX desktops cards would wail on the 2x 8800m GTX cards.

That is so stupid, they should just take care of you and not make you do all of that. Dont they charge you a fee for returning the laptop though?

Funny.. Lack of patience I feel

I don't think anybody has an m8800GTX in their hands yet either in a new system or as upgrade.

Best dates appear to be approx Feb 21st or beyond....

Cheers

I believe one person on this forum does but I dont remember who. Also my replacement 8800M GTX SLI has an estimated ship date of 2/13. Lets see if it will actually ship by then. Probably not but I sure hope so.
