cannot get windows XP or Vista installed on my computer

Edit: i have a Sager 9860. forgot to mention that in the title. I also had the motherboard replaced to the newest version which is used in the 9890.

Ok, i am having a hell of a time installing windows XP or vista on my computer. first, let me give some history about what has happened originally.

When i bought my computer, i didnt have an operating system and installed windows XP using some drivers (dont remember which) for the promise fastrak 378 SATA controller. About a year ago, i got a free copy of windows Vista, so i decided to install that. However, that was a royal pain in the ass to get because after loading the RAID drivers, it still wouldnt recognize my hard drive. After playing around for a while, by some dumb luck, it recognized my hard drive, and i installed it.

About a couple months ago when i started vista, it kept giving me registry errors and wouldnt start up. It said i had to boot form the vista CD and repair my partition. I booted up but vista wouldnt recognize my hard drive no matter what drivers i tried. I eventually gave up and started using linux (funny how linux installs perfectly without any problems with driver support on the install CD). I even tried installing windows XP with all the various drivers and that wouldnt work either.

However, i am fed up with linux and i need to use windows so i can run a lot of my engineering programs. I tried for several hours to find a driver that works but none of them do. I currently have it set to ATA mode in the BIOS and i only have 1 SATA hard drive in my computer.

Is there ANYONE who knows exactly what my problem is and knows how to fix it? i have tried for so long and i an just fed up with trying anymore. Its sad that i have such a powerful computer but cant do anything with it because windows wont even install.

I have tried the drivers straight from Sagers website, as well as the 1.00.1.37 and 39/41 drivers. I have also tried the 1.00.0.25 and 37 drivers too, and the SATA150x2 drivers, as well as a few others.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!

You need to DOD wipe your drive with a program such as Darik's Boot and Nuke, which is free and creates a bootable cd-rom for you to place in your optical drive. That will do a complete data destruct of the entire surface of your hard drive. After that do yourself a favor and "upgrade" to Windows XP until such time as Vista is doing better. BEst of luck to you.

Can you boot from a CD/DVD?? I have been running on the same OS for about 2 years now and want to re-install XP (system's slow to respond-and my mouses are actually lagging??). I have the USB floppy drive, but not the floppy. I have a recovery disk and the drivers disk, but with what I've been able to find out so far, I think I need the boot floppy. Can I create one? I know I can download all new drivers from the Sager site, and I think I will. If I need the floppy, why doesn't Sager save themselves a lot of time and put it on their drivers page rather than answering this question all the time?
