ok. i tried to use fiesty fawn. thats what was suggested on the ubunto forums. but when i try to use it. the x desktop thingy wont work. i think it has something to do with my graphics card. it fails to start.

feisty is not the current version

gutsy gibbon is... try that... that's a debian based distriubtion and uses apt... its pretty unoptimized but its been getting better and pretty much has the best hardware support....

if that doesnt work you can try some other big ones like pclinuxos

With regards to help, may I suggest finding a local Linux Users Group (LUG)? Sometimes a bit of face-to-face and direct troubleshooting is the best way to get things solved quickly (and obviously a great way to network with fellow Linux users). Check out your local LUG!!

good advice.

wish I could do that. Unfortunately many of us living in smaller communities don't have that option

Never even heard of a LUG before. Might have to see what is in my area.

You do often have to search for them, but they exist.

I even found one here in Napa, CA. We're considered to be "The Country Folk" by most people in the Bay Area.

Hey I grew up in a town like that...

Believe it or not I could probably still find Linux folks around... maybe not the rednecks but we weren't to far from a naval base
