My laptop will boot up, but the screen is not coming on.
Previous to this problem happening, I was working on the laptop when the screen suddenly went black on me, although the power indicator was still on. I did a hard shut-down, waited a few minutes, then rebooted.
Upon rebooting I got a message saying, "One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency." It also said, "Checking file system on C:." It showed the percentage of files being checked and eventually reached 100%.
The computer worked for a while longer, then the same thing happened. I repeated the above efforts, then in an even shorter time the computer screen shut down again. On the third try I noted a screen that said Volume Serial number, I don't know if that number is important, but I wrote it down. I also caught part of a phrase, ".....convert lost chains to file...." but then the screen changed and I didn't get to read the rest of it.
Since then the computer will boot up, but the screen is not lighting up. If I put the screen at an angle I can barely see my password login screen and I opened up Thunderbird, which seemed to have no problem opening up. So, while it seems the programs are working, the screen is definitely not.
Troubleshooting already tried:
Holding the Fn key while clicking on the right arrow key. No result.
Clicking any key. No result.
Using the touchpad, as in trying to bring the computer out of hibernation. No result.
Pushing the lid slide locks open, then letting them spring back into the lock position while lid was open and laptop was on. This resulted in a brief flash of the screen being on. Repeated effort while laptop was still on, no effect. Did another hard shut down.
Rebooting this time around took a while longer. For a very brief moment the screen flashed blue, and while the hard drive was making the usual noises I saw a very faint ghost image of the Windows logo and the word Windows on the top right of the screen. Eventually my password screen came on, and I logged in. If I try really hard I can distinguish the regular things I would see on my screen, but the screen is not lighting up in the normal way.
I hope someone has some good advice for me! Thanks for any help you can offer.
