Fujitsu lifebook S6231

Can someone please help me solve this power problem. The Fujitsu S6231 will not power on. There are no lights, fans, beeps or anything that would suggest life in it. I have replaced the power on board but still there is nothing happening. The only signs of life is the fact that the battery and ac power source shows up in the small lcd display. It has a full charge on the battery but the same thing , no power, no lights, no beeps. I believe that even if it was the system board, I should get the power on light. Can someone point me the the right direction of solving this problem?

. what did u mean by "replacing power on board"?
. try removing the battery, the ac, and hold down the power button for about 40 seonds to discharge static
. if u had the laptop apart, try replacing the cmos battery

This Fujitsu has a small control board that plugs into the motherboard. The board contains the dc power jack plug and all the control button micro switches.

The Fujitsu S6231 has a control board that plugs into the motherboard. This board has the ac adapter plug and the micro switches for the power and applications. I thought it was one of the micro switches but it wasn't. Thanks

No... It's still as dead as it was before. No signs of power anywhere. Tried removing cd/rw, ram, and battery just to get a beep but nothing. Tested the ac adapter for voltage and it checked out ok. Tried removing battery and as adapter then holding down the power on switch for about 40 seconds to drain the static from the system...nothing. Was told to change the cmos battery but after reading the user manual, it indicated that the system would work but the settings would have to be re-entered each time the system booted. If it was a bad motherboard, wouldn't I get some sign of power or a beep? Thanks

many manuals stated this, but it never hold true, bad cmos would just kill ur comp. This would be my next try since it is cheap to replace. Then we can sweat if it does not work

Other connections may be a problem too. Also, make sure you clean any contacts you can before reseating them (RAM, fan, CPU, auxiliary boards, etc) there are some products to help remove oxidation from contacts, but if it isn't too small, a pencil eraser works great. Just reseating corroded RAM often doesn't get it to work on the first try.

Cmos battery update... I replaced the cmos battery with a new one and you gueseed it....nothing. I also tried cleaning the contacts on all the connections that I could find while I had it apart. After replacing the cmos battery, I did notice however that the power adapter and battery icon appeared quicker in the small lcd area. Even though I do not get a power on, I can feel a warm area on the under side of the case around the memory slots but not right at them. For this to happen, power must be running through the motherboard, I believe. Could not find any area that looked burned or "shorted". I hate to have something beat me with all the help you all have given but don't know what else to try... Any additional help as always is appreciated....

the heat might be a bad sign. if you can isolate where it is coming from it could help you know if it's supposed to be there or not. Try keeping it plugged in for a while and then unplugging it so it isn't energized then feeling for the hot spot.

On some Lifebooks, there are two power buttons, one that is a switch and one that is a soft power button for shut down or sleep functions. Just checking. My first Lifebook confused me with that.

you may also want to check to make sure the power button really is giving the board the signal it needs. to do this expose the power button and figure out the two leads going to/from it. With power to the board, short these leads (which is what the button does) with a screw driver or piece of metal. This will check to make sure the power button isn't at fault.

If you haven't done this, try to get some spare RAM pieces to put in. If the RAM is bad it might cause just such a problem. It might not beep if it won't start at all. Some systems start without RAM but will NOT start with bad RAM. . . ? yeah, don't know.

You can start going over it with a volt meter too, just to see where there is and isn't power when it's plugged in. Careful though, you can short things out pretty fast. Make sure you ground the neutral end on the case or something well grounded and that you don't use a hot connection as your stable connection (Neutral-Not=okay, Neutral-Neutral=nothing, Hot-Hot=sparks and death).

Thanks...Will rip into it one more time and try all the new ideas along with rechecking all that has been tried. I have a C2111 life book that has the two power switches. Took a while to locate the second one and the strange thing is that it acted just like the S6231 before the other switch was located. Nothing but the power adapter and battery showed in the lcd panel which almost takes me back to the small power board on the S6231 that contains the small micro switches. I have looked over the laptop and inside for a second switch but haven't located one. Anyway will get started taking it apart again and will let you know...Again as always, THANKS

laptopstogo, I've got a very similar if not the same problem with Lifebook E8010. Have you got any further with yours?

With me though the way I got there was different: tried attaching external USB hard drive (with external power), the drive wasn't recognized, deceided to reboot. Instead of reboot, Lifebook shut down and wouldn't start after that.

If anyone has any other ideas, please help!

S6231 Power Problem

Stand-Buy Button under the Hing cover is Pressed.

Take batter and power cable out.

Open two screws underneath the machine (one is located between the Port Replicator Conntector and Memory Door and other is 2inches away from first screw) take out the status bar but dont disconnect from the systemboard.

Stand-By buton is locating on the Right Hing Covered with half inch Steel Plate.

connec the AC Adapter and turn it on.

It will work fine.
