Ordered two T9300 Penryns, installing in Sony Vaio AR and FZ Series, HOPE?

I ordered 2 of these new chips yesterday and they should be here soon. They were hard to find but i got them for a resonable price from: http://www.grassrootscomputers.com/I...id-348869.html

***Sony has released no updated BIOS for either laptop so far.***

Both laptops were manufactured in October 2007.

They currently have T7300 2.0ghz 800FSB Socket P removable processors.

They are both Santa Rosa PM965 chipset motherboards.

I have taken the laptops apart and installation is staright forward as usual.

Is there hope for success posting??? I sure hope so!!!

I realize the voltage will be slightly different most likely, but if all else is well... and the chip can handle the higher volatge without dying, it "should" work.

All EXPERIENCE with (santa rosa)--> (santa rosa refresh) upgrades is appreciated. No guessing please!

UPDATE!!! I installed the chip in the Vaio AR570 (17" Santa Rosa)

It works beautifully!!! I was worried it wouldnt post but it runs great. The cooling fan doesnt kick on anymore unless im gaming, it used to randomly kick on and off sometimes... guess that means its a little bit cooler.

Here are the differences in CPU/Memory performance before and after:

-----------------------------------------------------------
Merom 65nm T7300 2.0ghz

<CPUMetrics> (WEI RATING 4.9)
<CompressionMetric units= "MB/s"> 101.99107
<EncryptionMetric units= "MB/s"> 52.09843
<Compression2Metric units="MB/s"> 280.16687
<Encryption2Metric units= "MB/s"> 474.10568
<DshowEncodeTime units= "s"> 7.44784
<MemoryMetrics>
<Bandwidth units= "MB/s"> 3589.53271

***********************-VS-***********************

Penryn 45nm T9300 2.5ghz

<CPUMetrics> (WEI RATING 5.4)
<CompressionMetric units= "MB/s"> 125.85744
<EncryptionMetric units= "MB/s"> 64.43671
<Compression2Metric units="MB/s"> 371.56726
<Encryption2Metric units= "MB/s"> 588.18164
<DshowEncodeTime units= "s"> 5.61733
<MemoryMetrics>
<Bandwidth units= "MB/s"> 4128.16016
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was also excited thet the RAM got a boost, it jumped from a 4.8 to a 5.0 WEI Rating. For vista users with intel processors, you know that the memory score is very hard to improve upon.

Let me know what you think!!!!

I just bought the same model as your laptop. When i called sony they told me that i wouldn't be able to upgrade the chip, plus they told me it had the PM945 chipset, which i thought was weird since it had the T7100/800Mhz front side bus. Is it possible to have a Processor that supports the 800 Mhz frontside bus on a PM945 chipset? Thank you for your help...

If you model is indeed the VGN-AR570 then you have the 965pm chipset and can have the new penryn processors.

Sony doen not support upgrading the processor, even at their own service centers, for anyof their laptops. They will not assist you in any way with it.

Look in your device manager and sytem information tool and see what chipset you have.

I would have checked it myself, but i have not received it yet. Where did you buy the processor? are you thinking of putting blu-ray on it also?
