HELP with cpu in an Acer3003?

I have an Acer 3003LCI laptop which is overheating and shutting down. I have checked the fan, seems to work fine, and nothing else seems to be wrong. The laptop starts up(maybe) then runs a minute or less and shuts off, usually to thermal shutdown I assume. The CPU, when started, gets very hot within a min or less and that is when everything locks or shuts down. I believe the CPU is bad and want to replace it. I have checked on Acer's web site and their tech? help no good either. Does anyone have experience changing out a CPU on an Acer? I am trying to find out if when I change it, if I can upgrade it at all to a higher end cpu. Any help with this mess would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

In my experience, Acer's laptop CPU is fixed on the mainboard, there's no way to change it unless you change the whole mainboard. Which is a case you can just buy a whole new laptop.

But by what you described is indeed sounds like CPU overheating, try download Everest and report the chipset and CPU temp. http://www.lavalys.com Further more, if there's really a overheating problem best is to send for a repair. There might be too much dust in the fins or on the heatsink blocking airflow.

Ok... thank you for the info....not sure what to do. I figure it would be to costly to repair, but I also don't have the funds for a new laptop either. I guess as best if I dig into it and really mess it up, I'm not out much since it isn't running anyway! Thanks again for the info.

I never done this before on my own laptop, but i heard dozens of peoople using a can of compressed air and spray.. How they spray? i don't know. But look for the menu and DIY is proberly the best atm.

qhn mentioned about new thermal paste and that's related to replac CPU heatsink, clean it, add new paste and reinstall. If you're not confident doing this, ask a friend who have experience.

Well..... I cleaned it out checked everything again and same thing. The cpu can be removed and I tried another cpu....nothing there either! The only thing now is the mother board and I think everything else is non replaceable, so....I am searching for a mother board. Doing everything I can not to spend the 500-800 for a new comp. If anyone has a lead or a mother board for an acer aspire 3000 series, let me know. Thanks to all.

I have an Acer 3003WLCi that I bought since 2005.  It used to shut down until I realized the copper/gold heat sink radiator fins in front of the blower fan was clogged/dirty and so was the little fan blades.  Every six months I turn the laptop upside down, remove the blower fan motor cover and clean the fins of the blower and of the heat sink.  I start it up and no more problems.  I also make sure the exhaust has a clear 2 feet of un-obstructed space.

Yeah, it makes a big difference when using these laptops that they are on a solid surface so as to not obstruct the vents...that causes serious overheating..along with dust/hairbuildup
