Pentium M models 725 (1.6 Ghz), 735 (1.7 Ghz), 745 (1.8 Ghz), 755 (2.0 Ghz), and 755 (2.1 Ghz) should work

Yeah, I'm fairly sure.

Celeron M CPUs should all be upgradeable to Pentium M CPUs. They have the same pin layout and power requirements- the major difference is that Celerons are typically at lower frequencies and have no power management capability, while Pentium Ms do have that capability and have higher frequencies.

if the original poster has a banias-era processor (circa 2003), then the best would be a 1.7 Ghz Banias codename Pentium M

But if it's based on Dothan (as I assumed), then it should be compatible with any of the processor models I listed.

Now it's always possible that the manufacturer of the specific model in question soldered the processor directly to the motherboard, but it's more likely that the CPU can be replaced.

Graphics cards, on the other hand, are a totally different story. It's next to impossible to replace on of them on most notebooks!

I though most manufactures hardwired thier CPU to mainboard. I used to have 2 acer laptops and i'm sure the've done it that way.

If that's really the case how can i check if my laptop CPU is replacable?

To check, you'd need to open the computer up and remove the CPU heatsink. If you see a clip with a screw holding down the CPU, then it should be removable (and thus upgradeable if you've got a better one with the same power requirements and pin layout).

However, you're right that some manufacturers solder them in, and if that's the case you wouldn't be able to replace it.

Good to know, mine it is possible to upgrade from TL-50 to TL-56, but I adfraid the CPU is fixed, plus there's no information of the HyperTransport bus for laptop version. Since TL-56 takes up to 1.6GHz HT
