Make sure you post some benches

Congrats on purchase

I did the Step-Up from my GeForce 8800 GT 256MB.

Should be a decent upgrade, and although I thought about going to the 8800 GTS 512MB, it was cheaper to go to the 9800 GTX, by $20 (via Step-Up).
Did you sell the 8800GT?
Step-Up. Had to send the 8800 GT back, then eVGA sends me the new card (9800 GTX). I just paid the difference in price between the two, which came to $150. Had I done the same thing, but chosen the 8800 GTS 512MB instead, it would have been $170.

Possible GeForce 9900 mechanical drawings?

http://www.pureoverclock.com/story1986.html

While these are most likely counterfeit, a user on the XtremeSystem's forum has posted a picture of what is described as a "mechanical drawing" of two 9900 cards (GT200).
The poster of the thread on Xtreme Systems claims that the screenhots show the upcoming "D10U" products, one board codenamed P651 and the other P65x. If these pictures display an engineering drawing of the actual product, then we now know that both the GTX and GTS versions have support for triple-SLI. This featurerequires one 8-pin power connector to work, translating into a maximum power consumption of 225 watts for the 9900 GTS (75 watts + 150 watts). According to these drawings, the 9900 GTX could be looking at up 300 watts (75 watts + 75 watts + 150 watts). Of course, we don’t expect either card to actually consume quite so much, but we believe that the engineers have created enough headroom simply to ensure a stable operation of the card. What looks rather strange is the presence of NVIO chip. After the "we do not support HDCP at 2560x1600" fiasco, would indicate that these pictures are fake. NordicHardware ran two stories (here and here) disclosing alleged details of the cards. Reading over those details, we would agree that these pictures fit the bill, at least as far as power consumption and most specs go.

GeForce 9900 GTX Card Design Exposed

We saw some mechanical designs on GT200 card leaked out on the internet and we can confirm it is not fake as we got the same file earlier last week from our reliable sources. The D10U card has a total of 16 memory chips onboard up to 1GB GDDR3 memories, in line with rumored 512-bit memory interface which we are hearing a while back. Other information we have revealed earlier is the card is 10.5" long and dual slot with CoolerMaster TM71 cooler. There are evidences suggesting that GT200 could be on both 55nm and 65nm process technology, a similar approach that Nvidia is going to take with their current G9x series. GT200 is currently on A2 revision and there is a high possibility that Nvidia might launch GT200 on 65nm first then move to 55nm at a later stage. CJ told us GT200 could have 8 ROP partitions connected with 64-bit each making up the 512-bit memory interface and up to 10 clusters of 24 SPs = 240 stream processors. You can think of it as two G92 cores packed into one. There are some rumored specs leaked recently that might be pretty close to the truth.

Thanks for posting this info. It looks like details from both companies are starting to leak.

Nvidia leak isn't too impressive if you ask me though, just looks like every other GPU layout these days

DailyTech

"The GTX 280 enables all features of the D10U processor; the GTX 260 version will consist of a significantly cut-down version of the same GPU. The D10U-30 will enable all 240 unified stream processors designed into the processor. NVIDIA documentation claims these second-generation unified shaders perform 50 percent better than the shaders found on the D9 cards released earlier this year."

From the same DailyTech article Hulioni quoted...

Quote:
The main difference between the two new GeForce GTX variants revolves around the number of shaders and memory bus width. Most importantly, NVIDIA disables 48 stream processors on the GTX 260. GTX 280 ships with a 512-bit memory bus capable of supporting 1GB GDDR3 memory; the GTX 260 alternative has a 448-bit bus with support for 896MB.

NVIDIA pushing up GeForce 9900 to outgun Radeon HD 4800?

by Nilay Patel, posted Apr 25th 2008 at 9:21PM
NVIDIA's been on a hyper-competitive tear lately, and while the latest rumor isn't quite on par with Roy Taylor saying that the Intel CPU is "dead," it reinforces the company's new win-at-all-costs attitude. Seems ATI's upcoming RV770-based Radeon HD 4800 might threaten NVIDIA's dominance of the high-end graphics market, and that's just not acceptable -- so the company is planning on pushing up the release of the GeForce 9900 to July. That's one billion transistors and GDDR3 memory, if you haven't been memorizing rumored graphic card specs -- we're guessing that blue screen of death will render mighty fast on that rig.

Nvidia launches GeForce 9M series notebook GPUs

Nvidia launches GeForce 9M series notebook GPUs

As the global demand for better visual experiences makes its way into the notebook market, Nvidia continues to address that demand with the introduction of a new lineup of notebook GPUs, the GeForce 9M series of graphics processors, and a new graphics innovation, Hybrid SLI technology.

These new technologies enable customers to optimize their notebooks to power today's visual applications, such as the latest operating systems, photo editing, mapping software, games, and HD movies, said Nvidia. The GeForce 9M series of notebook GPUs is designed for running today's graphically intensive games, 3D applications and HD movies at extreme resolutions

Nvidia responds to AMD with 55nm 9800 GTX+, price cuts

Hot on the heels of AMD’s decision to lift the press embargo on Radeon HD 4850 performance information, Nvidia has responded with a price cut and the launch of the GeForce 9800 GTX+, an overclocked version of the 9800 GTX that the company is touting as the best single card price / performance offering.

The new and improved 9800 GTX+ bumps both core and shader clock speeds – with the help of a more efficient 55nm process – from 675MHz to 738MHz and from 1,688MHz to 1,836MHz respectively. GDDR3 memory remains the same at 1000MHz. What’s more interesting, Nvidia announced a general price cut on 9800 GTX cards to $199 (down from $290), with the GTX+ to sell at $229 – just $30 above the recently launched Radeon HD 4850.

The graphics war is certainly heating up and new offerings accompanied by price cuts will be most welcomed by consumers, though I can imagine those who recently bought a 9800 GTX card will be very annoyed at the fact this new GTX+ card arrives out of the blue with a better performance and price
