(still building on paper, don't think I'm going to go for the 9800x2 though unless they release that multimonitor driver fix)
The HD 4xxx series cards are the next gen cards from ATI based on the RV770-coded 55nm GPU (true next gen GPU). There are reports all over the place about this thing coming out around June.

LOL, yes at lower resolutions i'm sure the 9600GT is just fine...Remember this some settings you aren't even allowed...I know in CSS Source, I had a 7950GT and I wasn't even allowed the 16x for the AA, but when I put in the 7960GX2 it popped right up, so instead of 4x I was up to 16x.

There is a huge difference between 1360x768 to 1920x1200...I'm talking A LOTTT more power is needed, you won't achieve anything with 2 9600gtx at 1920x1200...You will need a higher end card, my 8800Ultra plays crysis at high, but not more then 2aa to maintain a playable state, again 24 inch resolution.

My single 8800GT (which is close to the 9600GT) can run basically every game out with maxxed everything @ 1920x1080...Sure I can't run Crysis at more than high@1680x1050 but hell the game isn't even that great it doesn't matter to me.

For basically every user, even those using high res displays, a 9600GT or 8800GT will suffice with no problems at all.

Not to mention AA at least from what I've seen while using it is really no big deal.

you know i really hadn't noticed the AA too muc... i know some of the games are allowing me to change those settings but some weren't. I'll have to take another look at that.

as for the res, i'm using the PC on a LCD flat panel TV and i don't think it supports any resolutions higher than that. i didn't like playing on too high a res on my m1710 anyway cause i use to lie down and play from a distance(laziness kicking in) and i couldn't read the text from that far off.

part of me wants to go all out and get two GX2s and the other part is saying i can hold out on two 9600 GTs.

and if ATI is coming out with a next gen card soon too then NVIDIA must be right behind.

YOu won't be running COD4 Maxxxed settings with Everything DYnamic on and AA on at 1920x1200, at least not in a playable fashion with a 8800GT...Sorry

Almmohd get a 8800Ultra used for about 350$ its well worth the money!

Guess I'm just hallucinating then

I'm using the setup right now and just a few minutes ago I was running 2AA high everything dynamic on soften smoke etc and was getting 60+fps via fraps

Those levels of AA are enabled when running sli. Been that way for a long time. Nothing new there. And wtf is a 7960GX2 .

almmohd - I think you would be better off with another 9600gt for sli or just wait till the true next gen chips hit this summer possibly. Don't make sense to ditch your gt you have now and buy an older card that would cost more than two 9600gt's as fella would tell you. You will get near the performance out of the gt's in sli for cheaper.

i do have the option to step up the GT, it's an EVGA card so I could pay the difference and get the GX2 or the GTX but i was questioning whether I should do that or get a second GT.

2aa, is not 4aa, COD4 allows 4aa...Run it then at 1920x1200 and let me know what you get, high everything, maxxed everything, everything turned on.

Your missing my point, 1360x768 is not 1920x1200, it takes a heck of a lot more power to run cleanly at those resolutions.

Lets do the math and you will see how your card will par:

1360*768 = 1,044,480 pixels

1920*1200 = 2,304,000 pixels

Thus your video card would have to pixelate 1,259,520 million MORE PIXELS, trust me it will come to a hault on those high settings.

I run at 1920x1080 FYI

Also, I'll turn on 4AA if you want, that's not gonna take away 50fps though.... either way the 8800GT easily suffices.

what do you think pdonket, should i pay the difference and step up the 9600GT to a 9800GX2 or a GTX or should i buy a 2nd GT?
DONKEY!~!!

1920x1200, not 1080...LOL...Turn on 4AA, everything on, crank it all up, run fraps and let me know what your hitting
post #77 of 180
Yeah pdonket, turn your sharp 1080p into a 1920 x 1200 panel already would ya . You know there is a huge difference between the two anywho .

Rockin wins, I'm outa here. Hope you all have some salt.

lol the diff between 1920x1200 and 1920x1080 is really not that significant

I'll run that tomorrow if I get the chance and bring back some stats
post #79 of 180
It's

2,304,000 pixels for 1920x1200

2,073,600 pixels for 1920x1080

I know 230,000 pixels is nothing to frown at, but it's like 10% diff

I think you should just go to a second GT, for your resolutions going for a GX2 is just unnecessary. Not to mention going with this method would be cheaper methinks (2 GT's)
