Do you seriously think that I would buy a brand new $4,000 laptop if I could just toss an 8800GTX in my existing set up for $500-$600?. "Erm" NO. Dell's got to up and revamp everything now and again, or they would never sell shit. Case in point being the E1705 that was an M1710 in disguise, but cost $2K less.

That 3D mark score is not impressive, mostly it is the CPU score that is raised that puts it at 14k. Why not overclock the 8800m GTX instead, that is what I will do and even with a 2.4GHz Core2Duo I expect to break my current 3D Mark score with my desktop 8800GTX, that is at least my goal

I am planning on overclocking mine as well, if they ever ship that is.

I looked at the prices and the CPU extreme cost is insane.

(I'm dusting off my plans for desktop around 8800GT right now LOL )

Will continue to read everything, waiting on review, benchmarks. Would love to see a head to head with Dell, Alienware, Sager, Rock - maybe on notebook review

I think Gateway will be getting lots of business since there Geforce 8800 laptops start at $1200 Im considering one myself
post #66 of 77
I initially thought the same, but GTS score is quite lower from that of GTX's. Even at that, 1200 price is very good.

If I was in a market, I would buy one.

Yea Gateway was smart to offer that kind of laptop at that kind of price.

I'll ask again since someone here said they had this setup.

It sure would appear that way since I posted it and I'm the original poster.

I think they make laws against that.

He just wants his original question answered (I think)

I will be getting my cards on Monday and I will overclock them when I get them. I will post my results if there isnt any up by then.

I'm just excited for the new technology. I have come to the reality that I will always be a few thousand bucks in debt to have a badass laptop. Now they're talking about an X9000 penryn.

An upgraded Precision M6300 is the only (DTR) laptop that interests me. I plan on just getting out of the DTR game and getting a 14" laptop and a good desktop

zzpulp, I travel a lot for work, so weight is a big issue not for me but for aircraft loading, its 10kg for carry on for most airlines. I pack the adapter in the hold. The M90/ aka 9300+ form factor is perfect balance between performance/weight

I take my Eee for in flight movies and skype mobility, I get way over 3hrs on it

and I hear you about desktops, I am planning SLI 8800GT rig - very cheap in comparison, but I expect to continue to need a 17" DTR in the future too - its just that my desktop is a P4 based and due replacement. I wanna get SLI plus extra video cards (if feasible) for driving multiple LCDs for stock trading without going the matrox route
