DVI to HDMI

Thread Starter
I own a m9750 and I was just wondering if this cable will work so that I can connect it to my TV.

Are there any disadvantages of converting from DVI to HDMI? I currently connect it with SVIDEO and not satisfied with the video quality which is why I'm thinking about buying this cable. Oh yeah there's no audio output with DVI either right? I'd have to go through optical or through the usual red and white wires?

Cable - Yes, the cable will work fine.

SVideo - horrible resolution, not good for games or large displays

Sound - No, no sound with video output

I have such a cable. Works fine on my 40" lcd 1080P. The resolution to me was a problem though, at first I tried running it at 1920x1080 which is the highest my TV can go with this cable and it cut alot of all the sides off, but i found theres an option on my remote for aspect ratio and I set it to just scan, and it fit all the edges in, and it looks perfect. however I tried using it on a friends HDTV with 1080P and there wasn't an option to set the aspect ratio to the right size. other than that it works fine.

Digital is digital,so keep it cheap.Any DVI to HDMI cable will work(they are the same).I would strongly suggest MonoPrice.com for anyone who needs cables.I love em,....Just read reviews. That being said , HDMI has a few updates like 1.2 and 1.3 but i am not sure they make any difference. From what i have seen it seems like marketing.

DVI to HDMI will give you a MUCH better picture than SVIDEO but you will have to send the sound signal separate. Optical is best, but if your just going to use your TV speakers ,any "stereo" input will do.

The only time HDMI really comes in handy over DVI is with a HDMI home receiver with HDMI inputs/outputs.

The m9750 has a built in surround sound, so you can just connect your audio to that.

Surround sound via SPDIF optical?

Thats what my Laptop has and it was a pain to find the headphone adapter for optical.
It also sucks having to hook up a sound cable as well as a video cable but i guess thats the nature of the beast.
