I wonder if it worth it ?

Hi all.

I will be getting a system exchange for my 9300. I am wondering what i will have ? Probably a 1720. Does the 8600 gt that they put in the 1720 surpasses a 6800go vanilla?

thx

I think the highest the 1720 can do is an 8600GT. I think the upgrade would be sufficient. But i bet an OC'd 6800 might pull through

I was very satisfied with my 9300 till all the problems. Is the the 1720 a good rig or should i push for a another system?

no i think you're getting an "upgrade" for almost every component... except for dvi that is

Yes the 8600M GT >>> 6800 Go trust me I have had both.

I just bought a 1720 and had a 9300 before. You will be very pleased with your 1720, if you were content with the 9300.
The Core2Duo/CoreDuo alone is worth the upgrade, not to mention second HD. The 8600 is also definitly better than the 6800go.
Well and DVI.....there might be some users who require it....but normaly you would'nt buy a notebook if an external display is an important component in your setup...
Without question it was a nice to have unused feature in my 9300. As you can see, I dont really miss dvi....

The only thing i dont like is the location of the various ports. These were definitly petter positioned in the 9300.

Thank you all for the input. I guess Dell really wants to keep me as a customer. I was so frustrated with their tech services. "System exchange" is good to win me back , i hpoe....

You will be pleased. Faster CPU, GPU, Larger HDD, Windows Vista and RAM.

"Windows Vista" OK so not everything is an upgrade

Why does everyone bash Vista so bad. I know its not as "good" as XP but its not all that bad. It runs fine for me and I love the way it looks. Plus DX10 is such a plus that it makes it worth it.

Its ok in 1-2 years everyone will be using it anyway so might as well get used to it now.

Is it possible to uninstall Vista from a 1720 and then reinstall Xp since i will still have the os from the 9300 ? Also is the 1720 is really the system to expect in a system exchange from dell ?

Yes you can repartition your HD and remove certain OS'es. That's all up to you.

You dont have to repartition just format and install whichever OS you like.

I never said he had to repartition. I said he 'can' repartition.

Personally I would repartition just because of Dell's useless partitions such as diagnostic and mediadirect.

True, you are correct. I kind of like media direct and I do not like the waste of 10gb for the recovery bloatwareloaded repair.
