Customer Feedback Wanted - Page 4

This is what you said the label on the notebook PSU from shopbattery said romes:
Brand: HiPower
Model: EA11603
AC Input 100-240Volt - 2.5A - 50-60Hz
Output 18-24V - 160W Max
Typical Output - 19V

First of all, the 2.5A rating is the input or what the PSU may draw max from the Primary Power source under a full load and not the output to the load or notebook. You know, input demand, usually from the wall receptacle (typically 120VAC @ 15 or 20 amps)? I think you are blaming the wrong people. Blame me if you must.

I'm sorry that the PSU from shopbattery didn't work out, or worse apparently smoked the notebook a month or two after using the PSU. Your replacement PSU from shopbattery didn't seem to mate correctly from the git go with the notebook and may have been overheating said you. That variable voltage output rating made me nervous when you replied to my question - just one or two daze after you received the replacement PSU from shopbattery - and complained of the original problems with the PSU. Did the PSU come with more than one output tip?

I don't know why Alienware told you to call shopbattery...I just found the company shopbattery on my own after an exhaustive search for a replacement PSU for you and others. I'm not an Alienware or shopbattery.net employee and don't have any affiliation with either, other than being a happy Alienware desktop owner.

I hate that you had a catostrophic event. Maybe Alienware said to call shopbattery because the PSU shopbattery sold you is what you claim smoked your notebook?

I tried to help...

ShopBattery replied to me via email just this evening and pretty much said the same thing. They said that my m9700 lists output while their adapters list input.

Quote:
'The adapter is the correct one. The specification of "2.5A" is the AC INPUT, not the DC OUTPUT. The AC INPUT describes the power that the adapter takes from the wall outlet, not what it sends to the computer. Alienware gave you the DC OUTPUT specifications. Our adapter's output is rated in watts instead of amps and it is rated to satisfy the power requirements of your computer.'

'The adapter's center hole is 2.5mm. If the ground contact in your computer is a bit loose, it can have a poor contact with detent notch in the outside. We can replace the cable with one that has a larger outside diameter near the tip.'
Now im still not quite sure what they mean by 'if your ground contact in your computer is a bit loose', because nothing on my computer is loose.

The problem is that the detent notch on the connector of the adapter they sent me is much further up on connector than on the Li Shin OEM adapters, meaning, the connector only plugs onto the notebook like 1/4 of an inch and doesn't sit firm on the DC input jack. So when the notebook is moved, or if the cord is moved, the connector falls off of the DC input jack, and usually throws out some sparks at the same time.

I offered to send them my OEM cable so they can compare the differences in the connectors, because they are not the same.

I shipped their adapter back today, waiting for them to replace the connector and send it back... I just hope they put one on there that fits.

Finally getting some things resolved. Alienware is shipping a keyboard off for me, and ShopBattery should be resolving the adapter issue.

No, was just the PSU and the cord, no extra tips.

Not your fault though, ShopBattery seems to be the only place that has replacement adapters, Id have eventually found it and ordered one anyways.

I do know that the adapter I got is not the adapter they show in the picture, and when I talked to Alienware today, they went to Shopbatteries website and judged whether it was the right connector or not by the picture and description of the adapter.

Anyhow, don't sweat it, I bought a new Dell M1730 which arrives in the next day or two, and while I play around with the new toy, Ill figure out what I need to do to get my m9700 going again. Was my own fault for using the adapter as long as I did. I knew something wasn't right. I had just told my dad a week before it quit starting up that I thought that adapter was causing overheating problems. I just hope I didn't fry the motherboard even though that is replaceable, Im hoping its something more along the lines of the DC input jack.

First of all, congratulations on getting positive responses from Alienware and ShopBattery. The M1730 sounds nice too.

I'm not a 100% sure what they meant either. I have a feeling though, the output connector will be different on the return PSU.

The specs of the PSU itself are fine....except for that variable output voltage spec still makes me nervous. It should output the exact voltage the m9700 needs all the time, not "typically". And certainly not "plus 5 minus 1". Ask ShopBattery about that spec if you don't mind. I have a feeling HiPower may install different output connectors on that same PSU and wire for other notebooks that require different input voltages.

Score a multimeter from Radio Shack or somewhere. Won't cost you much unless you go with a fancy Fluke meter. Measure the VDC out of the PSU before plugging it in to the m9700. If it's not the correct voltage, or the output connector is not identical to the original from Alienware...don't plug it in.

you want some feedback? here is some feedback:
I PAID ALIENWARE $12,000 + FOR TWO LAPTOPS AND BOTH OF THEM SHOWED UP BROKEN AND THEY SENT SOME IDIOT TO MY HOUSE TO FIX THEM WHO DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ALIENWARE. HERE I AM A YEAR AND A HALF LATER AND ONE OF THE MACHINES IS STILL BROKEN. NOW ALIENWARE WANTS TO CHARGE ME FULL POP FOR A NEW VIDEO BOARD. THERE IS YOUR FEEDBACK. AND BY THE WAY, THE COSTA RICA CREW SUCKS AND THE MIAMI CREW IS HARDLY A STEP UP. YOU GUYS HAVE SO MANY UPSET CUSTOMERS LIKE MYSELF OUT THERE THAT I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU ARE IN BUSINESS...OR IF IT IS TRUE THAT YOU ARE GOING OUT OF BUSINESS SOON THEN IT ALL MAKES SENSE TO ME!

Hee, hee, hee. I hit the 'Report Post' button on my own posts in one of alienwaresux' other tirades in another thread.

Got an interesting PM reply of the report from one of the Admins...

honestly id like to see, SUPPORT... yes i know. i said it. i paid over 4,000.00 to alienware and when it comes time for me to need help i find out you dont have a single part in stock, or even carry it. and if you did it goes to people with a warrenty.

also can i ask somthing? i would really like a reply here. How can you seriously say there is any kind of support or customer service for your computers when after about a year you drop the model and parts. So by the time peoples computers start breaking down you have washed your hands of that computer. so the customer is like WTF... no parts... no support.... EBAY i guess... Alienwares cousin.

Have you taken this issue up with one of the Alienware Reps that frequent this forum?
I'd like to see you guys supply/sell replacement parts for the products you sell, and not tell me you have the part I need, but that I can't have it because it's being saved for someone else who still has a warrantee after 5+ years????
The parts thing sucks. They will sit on your computer claiming there no parts for 45 days because they refuse to break down pre made computers that they are going to sale to new customers. I won't buy another desktop replacement. If I need games I am saving that for home.

Does anyone have a copy of alienware operating system for model number D900TBAT-12 laptop. It crashed and after boot up, "Operating system not found" appears at prompt. I tried contacting Alienware but you already know the company software is outrageous.

Sounded like your hard drive took the dump. What OS did you have before (XP, Vista, Linux ....)? Best bet is to just get another drive and re-install the OS with any installation OS disks out there and use the COA at the bottom of your notebook for activation.

cheers ...

thanks, I was trying to avoid that

I think they PURPOSEFULLY won't sell replacement parts just for the sake of wanting to sell another computer.

Would any other company tell its customers to go to a 3rd party company to get replacement parts? I mean, how unprofessional is that? Unless the 3rd party company has strings attached to them. Which I am starting to think they do.

Customer: Hello Alienware, I would like to order a replacement part.

Alienware: Sorry about your luck, search google, call ShopBattery.net, or buy a new computer....

Customer: WTF?

Alienware: Have a wonderful day and thank you for shopping Alienware.

LMFAO
I am just about done reading this entire thread, and so far that is the funniest thing I have read, partly because I was one of those customers when my original m9700 cooked its North Bridge on the stock TIM
