Hi!

I finally got the hack for the STAC9228 drivers working. Should work with M1330 and M1530, if so, please send me a short email with the tested configuration!

You can find the driver and a readme here:

never needed to hack the drivers to get my 1330 to work
post #3 of 37
yeah what exactly does hacking these drivers do?

Adding additional funstions that are not available with the original drivers.

But I think I uploaded the wrong file, so wait till tommorow an I'll fix it. You can reinstall the old driver without problems, so just check it out!

Perhaps I just registered here to give these drivers to international users, not only the German forums I usually visit... but if you don't like it, just leave and don't install the drivers!

To all others: The updated hack is online now, in the first file was a little error. The link stays the same!

A short list of features:

- advanced mixer with Stereo Mix
- ASIO drivers
- EQ
- Dolby features
- further additional functions

Just try it, if you don't like, just reinstall the old drivers. You can't break anything!

Thinking of getting the 1530.

Thanks for the effort!

Id be interested if you could post full details on the enabled features please.
Especially the Dolby ones!

Here is some proof that the hack works:

On the left side you can see that I'm running a M1330, on the right side is the German configuration tool for the SigmaTel Driver. As you can see, the tabs are "Speaker Test (Lautsprechertest)", "Jack Configuration (Lautsprecherkonfiguration)", "Mixer (Pegel)", "Advanced (Erweitert)" (with many more options), "Equalizer" & "Dolby" (Choice of Dolby type (Headphones, 5.1 etc.), Trimming, Delay)

You can trust me, this hack works! Please try it out and post the results here! You can reinstall the original driver at any time.

Thank you Spatz for posting evidence of its viability with the requested translations.

few questions

1) will they work on an m1710?
2) are they xp friendly
3) will it detect subwoofer and make more chutzpah come out?
I don't see any new options.

I just can say this: They work on a M1330 with the SigmaTel 9228 chip with Windows XP 32bit SP2. I am sure of this as this is the config I'm running. On other configs I don't know if they work but I assume the following:

1. Every notebook that uses the SigmaTel 9228 can use these drivers. I know that these are M1330 and M1530.
2. In the other thread there are instructions to get the driver running under Vista, I think it was something like setting every application in the driver folders to compability mode for WinXP SP2. For more details, look at the other thread!
3. The inis for the different chips don't differ that much, so hacking drivers for the other SigmaTel chips shouldn't be that hard. Just ask me for help or further details!

5.1 sound is available in the options, as well as bass routing, but because the lack of a 5.1-system I could not test it...

@Funny:

Which config? Chip, OS, Hardware?
what is compatibility mode, and has anyone gotten the hack to work on an m1710?

Doesn't work for M1530, FYI. Incompatible.
I tried it on my M1330 with Windows XP Prof..did it exactly the way the manual said, but I dont see any new options

Breece (and likely cr3ation):
Likely your M1330, like mine, does not use the same file as the one posted. Mine uses the 92xxM8-3.INI; you can find out which one yours uses by opening the Properties for the SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC device in the Device Manager and choosing the Details tab, with Device ID selected. The number following "SUBSYS" is, I believe, unique to each individual 92XX file; run a search on the WDM folder for files containing that number to locate the INI that your computer actually looks at. Comparing this to the changes between the stock and unlocked 92XXM8-8 files provided here, it looks pretty much like the controls are unlocked by adding a few lines to the bottom of the file; copying the lines from the bottom of the M8-8 and pasting them into my M8-3 successfully unlocked the controls, although whether or not they all function is yet to be determined.

Note: This is not necessarily recommended; recklessly modifying drivers can render a system unusable. Reference only, eh?
Sounds interesting! I thought it might me something like that. This worked for your? How about just copying the whole M8-8 into the M8-3 ? Probably wouldnt work, or what do you think?
I'll have a look at the .ini files later

Thank you !!
