Best wireless router

Thread Starter
My D-link di-634m wireless router is going south on me and I need a replacement. What would be the best router on the market in terms of strongest signal, longest range, fewest droped siginals, fastest transfer and least disturbed by a 2.4ghz cordless phone. I really would like a g router. Thank You.

they r all the same if the environment is right (no interference comes into mind)

get the specs of ur phone and do the reverse, or get another cordless that does not create much interference, or find a channel that works within the router

I have this one at home and have had no problems with it.

Linksys MIMO, and never, ever, go back to d-link.

kinda like asking whats the best car to buy

do you have 3 million to spend? or just 23,000?

for a router quite honestly unless youre some bit torrent freak you just need a linksys wrt54g with speedbooster or get the spec N version if you have an N card,......and if you so choose google WRT54g tomato and start reading

but best router money can buy? somthing that starts with a Cisco (Cisco makes linksys but Cisco has their own routers too)

People used to say D-Link is the best. I experienced it sucks alot! I do experienced with some really smooth running generic products but unfortunately i forgot the brand name atm

Heh, d-link the best?!? I have nightmares just by looking at the setup page... my wrt54g at SSH is easier.

Go with the Linksys.

Linksys is much more better then d-link do no compromise go for linksys

Cisco owns Linksys (at one time it was its own company) but make no mistake, when you purchase a Linksys device your not getting anything near the quality of a Cisco device. We are talking < $200 (Top of the line Linksys) vs. >$700 (entry level Cisco wireless router).

Also note that if you purchase a Linksys device you can always tade it for a Cisco device.

Got the linksys router too, like the setup menu. I'm running G, wpa2, non broadcast sidd, and its simple to toggle off firewall and open ports for when visiting thatswedishtoerrentsite we are not allowed to discuss

I run it with their high gain antennas instead of the regular antennas. The router is in the basement and I get strong signal all over the house, really recommend the antennas.

I never get phone interference and have panasonic 2.4Ghz telephones. Just do a scan for networks around you and choose a different channel, and try using the phone while on that channel, if interferes change channel etc

Honestly, I have never had any problem with Linksys other than the usual. Sometimes you just pick up a rotten egg. That's a whole different discussion though.

I have been running Linksys WRT54G/S routers for years now with no problems.

I would go with an OLDER WRT54G or WRT54GS, get something pre version 4 if you can. Then do your research on third party firmwares, like the one a user said before me. Called Tomato, but do your research on them. There is more than one, I personally use DD-WRT as my third party firmware. They all have pros/cons and each one focuses on something different. So get the one that best suits your needs.

With that being said, if you wanted a brand new router. Then get a WRT54L router. Its the same as the early WRT54G/S routers, only it still has the open source linux firmware installed, so support for them by the third party developers are much easier.
