I did not find a guide yet, but basically all the screrws on the bottom of the laptop would be a good start, I can't remember how many i did from the top side.

You would think you would hear it rattlling around in there'
and then again, your lucky it did not go up in smoke

You are saying that you pulled youre FX apart? Would be nice if you could check it and write a "mini guide" about it, because there are a lot of ppl who wan't to take it apart for different reasons...1 of the meven killed his laptop:O
I was shaking the laptop, first I heard a rattling, but later it stopped...btw what does this word mean: "smake" ?

Damm, I don't want to pull my laptop apart becaus of small thing like that But it seems I will have to...
Again, please if u did pull it apart, please write a guide, a lot of people would need it. (That screws are the easy part, I can get out all teh screws but I don't know which thing I need to remove)

Because of this I would like to remove the whole back of the laptop to check inside. Can anyone please tell me how can I do this (maybe a guide?) ? It is really important! Thank you!

If your talking about this assembly in the picture, there is only the one spring loaded screw on the end (opposite the fins) the four around the CPU are removeable, for a total of 5 screws on the assenbly

Yes, there is a screw with a spring on the end, but there are 2 other springs at the CPU, at the positiopns marked as "2" and "3"...1 of these springs falled in the laptop and thats why I have to take the whole back off to get this spring out.

so you are now missing two of the four retention springs for the CPU heatsink ?

I had 2 and yes, I am missing 1. The 1 I am missing probably falled somewhere deep inside the laptop, thats why I need to take it apart. So I could really use any guide how to do this

Just off topic of the missing spring loaded screws... Anybody successfully oc`ed 8800gts via software? I mean using RivaTuner or so. I am using RivaTuner v2.09 and even though it detects the clocks correctly I do not see difference in FPS after modifying it. Anybody?

Therefore I had installed back the GW`s one and removed the LG`s one from it`s bracket(1 screw total). From there it was a breeze. 7 levels of brightness and amazing picture comparing to the original screen...all for only $189...
What is the full part # for the Phillips LCD I noticed some are marked like this:
" LP171WU1 TL A1" or

What do the TL A1 letters designate? If I would go for a WXGA+ for the P-6080
which model LG Phillips would fit?

thanks

Ehhhh... Did someone disassembled the entire notebook to reach the videocard? Mine is getting very hot here, but I've found so difficult to disassemble everything...

I tried once, but it became very scarey and I stopped.

try cleaning the fans out

I'm not sure if someone already posted here, but I need help.
I have gateway 6860 FX laptop.
And i was wondering if there is any software i can use to adjust the fan controls. Because sometimes when i play cod4 it takes it a long time to turn on, sometimes it doesn't even turn on.
I was hoping there was a program that will enable me to let the fans run at 100% when I want them to.
I don't want to damage my computer by overheating. Please help.

Anyone know if I can upgrade with a T7400. Its a Merom cpu - not Merom-2048, but I assume the only difference is the Merom-2048 has less cache.

Unfortunatly there isnt any available software that will allow fan control on the FX series. Gateway has pretty much locked us out completely in the BIOS so we're out of luck there.

On the Upside the cooling is pretty good in the 6860. I'm running an x9000CPU and i get idle temps of 32/34 degrees and under gaming/benchmarking/stress i only get up to the mid 60's. On the GPU side i havent gotten over 74 degrees unless i'm running a hard core stress program (and you dont use those alot)

Yes you can use a t7400, but why was that your choice over say a t8300/t9300 or something similiar?

Hi!

This is my first post. I just replaced the T7250 in my daughter's computer with a T9500 CPU.

Is there any way to change the voltage to the CPU? Can't see any way in BIOS.

Thanks for all the info.

That size should work with the P-78 series. Have you tried also update the BIOS to the newest as stated in the sticky here?

Yeah I got it to work, Just had to activate the drive and give it a drive letter, brain fart.

Now on to another subject, As of today 12/01/09 any recomedations as to an upgraded screen and blu ray drive? Links would be very much appreciated.
