How do I convince Dell to replace my Gen 1 XPS? - Page 4

well poo! lol. if i knew it sold for that much, i might have placed a bid! I have a girl at work who does our graphics and stuff along with running/designing our portal and doing all the forms for our financial databases for output to members...

She does like to game too! LOL. we were going to split the laptop with her, but we got her a 1720 (yuck) and i'm going to get her a nice gfx card for her precision desktop.

CMON NVIDIA. that 9800gtx is a nice price and all, and i dont really want the 9800gx2, but the game benchmarks REALLY aren't all that impressive. Especially considering that her mobo doesn't support pci-xpress 2.0

Sorry about the sale. i kept seeing idiot no-feedback buyers and kind of figured that would happen. i wonder if you can setup a sale to NOT allow bids from buyers under a certain level of feedback.

I hear ya on the bills. With this stupid recession its getting tougher and tougher to make it. Hell, half the factories around me are leaving the towns they are in. I get annoyed at my job, but this Credit Union is super financially solvent and we specialize in ag loans. And where i live that corn and beans are freakin BOOMING! LOL.

Good luck with the sale, and if it falls through, PM me, and i might be able to find you a buyer. my cousin in salt lake (who had an xps2 that got stolen a year ago) is in the market for a gaming laptop and i think he has around that much to spend.

Sorry about the earlier post. i was in a sh*tty mood due to vista and my work 2003 domain. arrgh.

I will suggest you to sell it, because the about the price on Dell Outlet recent listing.

I have been check closedly within these few days and some are with X9000 and 8800SLI about about $3000. VERY ATTRACTIVE.

yeah. the prices are seeming to drop a bit lately. it SEEMS like they're selling pretty well. i wonder if a new gfx model will be coming out soon or something?

Maybe I missed it, but did you/will you post the number you called which got you the replacment when multiple repairs did not fix it?

I sold it yesterday do a guy for $2600. He was skeptical at first as to why I was selling it unopened and still in the box, but I told him the story and even showed him this thread on my phone.

So now I can pay off an overdue car and credit card payment, and still have some dough left over to build my dream desktop PC. Time to hit up Newegg!

Not really a dream PC?

Back in January-February, I built a kickass PC for $1000:

Core 2 Duo E6750
DFI LANParty X38-T2R
4GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 RAM
eVGA GeForce 8800 GT
WD 750GB 7200RPM HDD
Antec P182 Case + NeoPower 650W PSU

Had holdovers of my NEC DVD+/-RW drives, G15 keyboard, G7 mouse, and Dell 1907FP LCD from my old PC, but that doesn't add a tremendous amount to the cost anyways. Windows is a non-issue as I get it free from my school, but still.

For about $1500, he can build a NICE desktop, with a faster processor, faster GPU, likely bigger hard drive, and X48-based mobo if he would like. Or, he can back down on some parts, and have an even better "bang for the buck" build.

Show me a game that won't play well, at high framerates on that computer above, and I'll show you 50 more that will.

FYI, head over to HERE Psythik to get advise on the desktop.

Personally, anything that will run Crysis on high in 1680x1050 noAA at a decent frame rate would be a dream PC for me. So with that being said, this'll get the job done:

C2D e8400 (OC to 3.6-4GHz) - $200
4GB DDR2 800 5-5-5-15 - $70
ASUS P5E Intel X38 MoBo - $225
EVGA 512MB 9800GTX - $300
OCZ GameXtream 600w PSU - $110
Samsung 20x DVD+/-RW - $25

I already have a Case (NZXT Apollo), M+K (Logitech & ZBoard), surround sound (Sony & Kenwood), monitors (LG & KDS), CPU cooler (Freezer 7 pro), OS (Vista Ultimate 64-bit & XP Pro), and a 700GB hard drive (Samsung 32MB cache 7200RPM), so after shipping, I won't even have to spend $1G to build a machine that'll play anything and everything after some CPU & GPU OCing.

Anything more than that is overkill and a waste of money (esp. SLI).

Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's hell. I've got the kind of job that only pays well if the economy is up, and since it's not doing so well right now, I've been in a bit of a tight spot (but still surviving).

I will get the 8800 GTX with 768MB for $269, bigger PSU since you have SLI feature. Not to mention a good CPU heatsink if you are planning to go up to 4GHz.

You don't like the qual CPU?

The desktop in my thread was built for right around 1200 in November 2007. I have noticed some huge increases in performance ESPECIALLY with AA cranked all the way up by having the 8800GT in SLI. With the price drop for the Q6600 and those same vid cards, you could probably get everything for under 1k. Granted, i already had a monitor and OS's.

I was looking at the 9800gtx as i am building my parents a PC and was going to break mine up to give them the vid card and the PSU (so the grandkids can play games! lol), BUT... the frames increase just wasn't what i was expecting. that card seems more like an 8900 in my opinion. BUT... for a new build.... $300 for that card is a HELLUVA price. I just wish they would up it from 256bit to 512bit. hell, bring me 1gb of video ram paired with a 1gb bit interface. i like high res!
