Backing up the expected winner of the HD format war, Blu-Ray, Sharp Corporation has unveiled two new lasers codenamed GH04P25A4G and GH04P25A2G. The latter features a 5.6 mm diameter and offers Blu-Ray recording at speeds of up to 6x while the GH04P25A4G is basically the Mini-Me as it has a 3.3 mm diameter.

The two lasers will enable the manufacturing of optical drives for desktops and notebooks capable of 6x write speeds. Sharp is expected to start mass production in April with the costs per laser set to be of 50,000 yen or about $461.68.
