Is it possible to buy a blu-ray drive upgrade kit for the Dell xps m1710?

Thanks

Yes it is. You'll just need to buy a SATA slim drive for your M1710. It should work fine, might not fit properly (might have some gaps around the drive) but it should function just fine.

Does that mean Dell don't do an official upgrade slimline Blu-ray drive kit for the xps m1710?

you could probably buy the drive from Dell, Yes and replace your exisiting one.

You can also buy the drive yourself from Ebay etc for less - some have done that method.

I believe you also require the 7950 GTX GPU

Or the Quadro FX 3500M. You'll need a HDCP compatible videocard to view the high-def content in all of it's glory, and for the 9400/E1705/M1710/M90, that's only the GeForce Go 7950 GTX and Quadro FX 3500M.

When I checked Dell "Parts & Accessories" and "Upgrades for your Dell" sections, I've never seen an official BD drive upgrade option officially offered.

I wound up buying a Blu Ray drive off of eBay. From what I can tell, there are three models that you could search for.
UJ-110 <--Read only for BluRay, but also is DVD RW
UJ-210 <-- RW for BluRay and DVD
UJ-220 <-- Faster RW for BR, and RW for DVD

I've been experimenting with a UJ 220 drive and several BD software players, and have been very happy with Cyberlink's PowerDVD Ultra (ver 7.3).
