Buggy vista sp1 (rtm)

Vista SP1 RTM is buggy, internet (using wireless on a Dell 1390 card) would occasionally be dead. Like if I try to visit a website usually it says cannot reach server or whatever the usual thing is when it can't sense a connection. Also when I type in sites like yahoo.com it will bring me to like the live search or yahoo depending on what i set the provider to be and link me to click on the site with WWW.yahoo.com. If I type the www first it wont happen. Also the "dead connection thing is affecting everything like AIM wont connect sometimes and I have to click connect again. Same with World of Warcraft. It says unable to connect server usually the first time I click connect. Have to click again. I am using a netgear wgt624v3 router, I did not test this with different router yet or have i tried the cat5 cable. But this problem happened after SP1.

Removed Sp1 now comp even more buggy.

You must have seperate issues...SP1 fixes a lot of issues with Vista, and does improve performance.
I was in the beat tetsing team for SP1, with many people running it with no issues...

I don't know, everything fine and dandy without SP1 now.

Vista SP1 RTM is working fine for me on my 1710...

I'm also using SP1 without any issues. Including wireless.

I think it's more of a driver thing than it is SP1. You might try updating your drivers after SP1 is installed.

Also, on another point, I don't ever recommend installing a Service Pack on a Windows install. Too many things can go wrong. What I always suggest is slipstreaming the Service Pack into your install disk, and reinstalling. It's generally safer, it's cleaner, and usually more reliable doing it that way.

I also have been running SP1 RC and have not had any issues, it does not seem to have made the computer any faster, but it didn't cause me any problems either!!!

I updated all the drivers after SP1 but it seems like websites don't load on first try. Always got to refresh.

Ive had that problem with vista but ive also had that problem with IE7 on XP so i tend to lean towards IE7 causing the problem, but thats just my opinion.

That may be all fine and dandy for some, but completely out of the question for others. If you are talking about somewhere between one and two weeks of work, fulltime, to reinstall, configure and customize all of the software on your machine, then you may not be all too keen on that reinstallation thing, as much as that one is loved as the universal solution to all problems by tech-support personnel worldwide...

For what it's worth, I have never had any problems of any sort with any Microsoft service packs, but we'll see. I really don't give much weight to isolated anecdotal evidence such as the one of the OP. In many cases it turns out that the people having problems started with a half-broken, sorry "tweaked", system to begin with...

This happens with Firefox too, also like I said, it's not limited to browsers but also games and everything that needs an internet connection. Usually fails first time and got to try to connect again. This is weird haha. Uninstalled SP1 and no more problem.

Once again, I will say that I recommend that because it has the potential to cause the LEAST number of problems, is the most clean of ANY other way (no overhead from replaced/updated files), and again, is generally safest. Especially with Windows Vista SP1, where this is the first time the Windows KERNEL has been updated via a Service Pack it's the best way to do it.

I'm once again going to reiterate a driver issue. Something specific with the OP's computer, and NOT SP1 (unless something went foul with the install, which is still an isolated case with the OP). I am using Vista SP1 as we speak, and notice ZERO issues. Especially none that are anywhere close to the problems he described. For me, internet/network access is faster overall, and this has been noted by many different sources. Again, it's likely related to drivers.

fenuxx not trying to step on your toes Fenuxx, but from what I've heard you can't really slipstream sp1 into the vista dvd, there is some kind of reverse engineering with creating an image after you've installed vista and sp1 but I cant remember exactly, if its do-able can you hit me up with a guide I've been trying to figure it out for a couple weeks now.

Its a long way round but apaprently works.

Us MS beta testers were given an image of Vista with SP1 slipstreamed already

I just formatted and installed Server 2008 (essentially Vista SP1 with bloat removed and server bits added) and I have found it to be a lot faster, more responsive, use less memory...and theres no way you would know its server unless you looked in control panel. I'm using Server 2008 as my main OS on my 9400!
