NBF MobileForce Goes SLI... New "SLI Edition" drivers to make way.

I am receiving a new replacement computer, to be exact, the XPS M1730 with SLI (GeForce 8800M GTX SLI).

One thing that has been a complaint about MobileForce is that the drivers we usually release aren't that good for SLI. Moreso the driver itself rather than the modifications that we make to them to create the MobileForce variant.

One goal I have with the new laptop I've got is to test and create specialized SLI drivers SPECIFICALLY for SLI owners. The drivers will be specifically for those using SLI laptops, and NOT for single-GPU laptops.

As I do still have my other M1710, I will still be able to work on and develop MobileForce drivers for single-GPU laptop owners, so fret not.

These new drivers will be the brand new NBF MobileForce SLI Edition and will debut for both Windows XP and Windows Vista. Right now, I'm simply in the "gathering information stage" (as I don't yet have my SLI laptop, but will within the coming weeks).

I would like to take this opportunity to ask the help of other SLI notebook users, if they'd be willing to help participate with, and test these SLI only drivers. If you're interested, PM me, and we'll get the details worked out.

Thanks in advance!

I'm using a dell XPS M1730 with a Core 2 Extreme X9000
and Dual 8800M GTX SLI and Windows Vista Ultimate with SP1.

My first problem is that the most up-to-date drivers from dell don't work with the itunes feature called coverflow. When I use coverflow with dell's drivers, it crashes, freezes my computer (mouse wont move and ctrl alt del wont work) and i have to hold down the power button to get back into windows.

When using
NBF MobileForce VS 174.31
coverflow no longer crashes, however it does run really slow.

(Its important to note that when sli is turned off, coverflow runs flawlessly on both dell and NBF drivers.)

My main problem with the NBF drivers (although getting coverflow and whatever directx mode it uses to run smoothly in sli mode is important to me) is that when i try to connect to my 42inch television, the NBF drivers prevent this from happening, whereas the dell drivers work fine.

(The BNF drivers cause my display to look like it successfully connected, but then the TV remains black, but lit up, as if its connected, but a big black cover has been pulled over everything) I'm connecting with a gold-plated DVI to HDMI cable, for those wondering, to a westinghouse 42 inch 1080P LCD TV.

More specifically, as this may be an indicator of the problem, both dell and NBF drivers ONLY give the option to "use a single display only" under the multiple displays options in the Nvidia control panel, at least while using a Dell XPS M1730. Whereas im pretty sure there should be other options here, such as extend my display onto the TV, or clone my display on both my laptop and my TV, ect ect.

Another thing that might be important to note is that the usual popup from windows mobility center that i perfer to use, titled: "external display detected" that allows you to choose if you want to clone your display, display only on the external display, or extend your display, never pops up.

If my explanations are hard to understand please let me know. I'm only trying to improve the quality of the next release of NBF Mobileforce drivers for windows vista.

If you need to run dual screens, you have to turn off SLI. SLI will not work for dual screens. It is not any version of driver will let you run dual screens under SLI mode. There is no driver support yet. NVIDIA is working on it now.

I dont want to run dual screens, I only want my display to show up on the external monitor when plugged in, but the latest vista mobileforce drivers dont work when i try this.

Just to destroy all facets of the argument, I tried connecting my display, with the MobileForce drivers, with sli *turned off,* and it still did the same thing, so it's def. a problem with mobileforce drivers in general, and not sli.

I am using Dell's 174.31, and no problem at all using external display only. (I have both 24" and 30" Dell monitor.)

and have you tried using itunes coverflow when sli is enabled?

Just an FYI, unless I ever get this M1730 fixed, there will be no SLI Edition driver. I just can't test anything unless I have an SLI laptop to "develop" on, and the M1730 I have is toast (thanks Dell) without any ability to fix it (without costing me $500-800 for a new CPU and motherboard). So, at this point, SLI-optimized drivers, are, unfortunately, a no-go.

Do you mean the one they sent you is defective? There must be more to this, since if it were new I suppose you'd simply return it for a new - working - one.

I have no idea what the heck happened to him... I've contacted him a few times over the past month or so, and haven't heard back.
