Dell XPS Gaming Laptop: Vista Ultimate, Office 2003 Pro, CompleteCare Warranty

Thread Starter
I have a lightly used Dell XPS Laptop for sale. The laptop is still under the CompleteCare Warranty plan (268 days left as of 2/16/08). I would recommend this type of laptop for anyone who is a heavy video editor, an animator who needs to render a lot of 3D images, and of course heavy to occasional gamers. The processor and high-end video card (Nvidia 256MB 7800GTX; Subscore of 5.9 in vista for gaming and 5.7 for windows aero) can support any of the latest games and any of the latest video-editing software. As far as the battery, it was not affected by the Dell battery recall program and still holds the full charge - roughly an 1-2 hours depending on what you are doing. I have outlined below the full specifications of the laptop and have also added numerous pictures to display all aspects of the laptop.

• Intel® Pentium®M PROCESSOR 760 (2 GHZ/2MB CACHE/533MHZ FSB) .
256MB DDR3 Nvidia® GEFORCE™ Go 7800 GTX PCI Express™ x16 Graphics w/ 256bit Infrastructure (handles ANY game well)
2048MB (2 GIGABYTE) DDR2 533Mhz Dual Channel SoDIMM RAM;
17" TRUELIFE™ WUXGA+ Wide-Aspect ULTRASHARP™ TFT Active Matrix (1920x1200).
250GB 5400 RPM hard drive.
8X DVD±R DUAL LAYER DRIVE CD – DVD BURNER.
• BroadComm 570x 10/100/1000 Gigabit Network Adapter
• Built-in firewire port (1394) for fast fast file transfer.
• Built-in Intel 2200 A/B/G Band Wireless Network Mini-PCI Card 54MB/sec
• Onboard Sigmatel 9750 Sound card with subwoofer
• Built-in 56K V.92 modem
• Comes with original 130W AC adapter
• Powered by Windows Vista Ultimate (upgraded).
• 16 different Colors Change the LED colors: [R\L Exterior Panel, R\L Fan, Both Speakers], Ruby, Emerald, Amber, Sapphire, Amethyst, Topaz & Diamond and MORE!
• 9-Cell Battery holds strong charge (1-2 hours depending on what you do.) • Other ports: PCMCIA, 6 USB 2.0, external monitor,DVI Output, s-video, IR, stereo, microphone, SD Card Reader.
• Weighs roughly 8 pounds which is considered “light” for such a powerful laptop

I will also throw a Dell Premium 17” Notebook Case (Bought on Dell.com for $75) for free. It fits the XPS perfectly and is a recent 2007 model.

Quick Points:

*. Very clean, perfectly working Laptop computer
*. Absolutely flawless screen (no scratches, stuck or dead pixels)
*. Reformatted to a clean install of Windows Vista Ultimate and 2003 Office Pro installed.
*. Best of all the laptop comes with Dell's CompleteCare warranty (the best out there). If you drop the laptop, spill coffee on it, or it just breaks, Dell will either fix it or replace the entire laptop for free!

There is, however, a cosmetic flaw:
1. There is an extremely small hairline crack by left speaker and bottom right corner (not very visible and it does NOT affect functionality of anything, it is only cosmetic)

Price: $1350. I would prefer doing a local sale (I live in Santa Barbara, CA), but I can ship it anywhere in the contiguous 48 states (I'd prefer not to ship to Alaska or Hawaii because it's a hassle at the post office). I'd also be willing to ship for free if bought at my asking price. If you want to see any additional pics, please feel free to PM me. Thanks!

Reason I’m selling: I need to move to an ultraportable laptop as I will be traveling frequently in the spring. Note: All the pictures below are actual pictures of the Laptop. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me

Why thanks Evad91. If you actually check the 25 posts you can see that none of them are bullsh*t, but represent accurate responses. I followed ALL the guidelines listed in this forum. I would appreciate it if you can be a bit more welcoming to newcomers..unless that is you want Notebookforums to be a private-based forum whereas a community public-based forum, which if you did not know, Notebookforums is.

Your posts leading up to this thread were informative and helpful, I'll give you that. You may not have broken the letter of the rules, but you certainly did not follow the spirit of the rules, whatever.

Welcome to the forums!!!
You'll be glad to know there's no penalty for excessive nor infrequent posts here, as long as they are not really mean spirited.
I had an M170 and enjoyed it for the brief time we were together, it was (for me) a very nice, good running, error free and somewhat colorful laptop.

Evad91, I thank you for your sincerity and if I broke any spirit rules, I apologize.

Rereg, thanks for your contribution of your personal experience with the M170. I must agree with you that it's a very nice laptop!

Cheers,
Jimmy

Just to clarify, the "spirit of the rules" regarding having a minimum number of posts is to encourage folks to join and take part in the forum community. In my opinion, you seem to be doing that and so you're welcome to post here. Welcome to the forums!

The M170 Gen2 was my first introduction to the XPS line and I never looked back. Goodluck on the sale and welcome to the forums.

Having once moderated/administrated the Classifieds area at another computer tech forum, when I saw your post here, I must confess the fact that you had signed up, posted 25x in one day, and made your 26th post a For Sale thread for a fairly expensive system, threw up red flags to me too. I bit my lip and moved on.. It's not my place to judge here.

Your posts are indeed not BS, but the rapidity thereof will make some established traders wonder.

I will say this; There's two ways you can quiet the nay-sayers... 1) post a picture of your laptop with a handwritten note clearly visible with your user ID here and the date. This helps verify that you do infact, have the item for sale.

2) If you have accounts, and feedback accumulated, post links to eBAY, heatware, beerology, etc... I do this myself, even though I'm a long established forums trader (not so much here, but at the other site I was an admin at, and definitly on eBAY).

Best of luck to you on your sale here, and welcome to the forums.

Brian

Hi Mr B. I did as you suggested and I posted a picture with my notebookforums user name. I also have an ebay account under the name of

"James.Jim"

I have 60 positive feedbacks, 1 negative (it was a retaliatory feedback from a seller that I left negative feedback for). I have been a loyal member since 2002, and if you're more comfortable with going through an Ebay auction, I would be willing to set one up as long as the buyer pays the listing fees.

So if anyone feels like I'm a cheat, please feel free to check out my feedback on Ebay. I decided not to sell this on Ebay due to excess fees they charge. I'm willing to do anything for a potential buyer (within reason) to prove that I'm a real seller and not some scammer from Nigeria.

Thanks,
Jim

Hmm..maybe I'm doing something wrong. I've only received a few emails, but nothing serious. I'm open to feedback: should I change the price? Any other suggestions? More pics? I'm open to any tips. Thanks

I think you're doing alright, this for sale section just isn't as busy as it used to be. A couple years ago you could sell anything with a decent price in 2 days or less. Now it takes a month if it works at all.
Well, it may still be a little high. I dunno. I'm sending you a pm with some info.

Price: $1350.

This is a typo right?
I think the price is too high. I think most of the people here don't pay for extras including software or warranty. That may influence their desire to give an offer, but in the end the don't want to pay for them. For that reason, I would suspect the office and vista ultimate aren't adding much to the value. The completecare is nice, but again I'm not sure if people want to pay a lot extra for it. Things that move quickly price only the value of the notebook itself and throw extras in for a very modest increase or given away. You may be better off selling the office 2003 and cashing in the completecare with Dell and selling the notebook alone. (unfortunately you can't do the same with Vista, unless it is the retail version?)
