Red lines/dots on screen - Toshiba M60

Hello all,

I have a going on 3 year old M60 which has been nothing less than stellar in terms of performance and reliability.

A few days ago, I was playing a game, when all of a sudden all these red dots started to appear all over the screen. I exited out of the game, and reset.

On the BIOS splash screen, the Normal 'Toshiba' on a black screen was now 'Toshiba' on a completely red screen. A few more resets and the red disappeared.

Its been ok since, but yesterday was watching Bladerunner on the laptop and for a few seconds the same red dots appeared around the edges of characters and buildings...they then vanished and the rest of the movie played out ok.

Is this a sign of a failing display or video card? Or could it be some sort of temperature issue?

Anyone have similar problems?

Thanks,

Thanks,

I've only had my Acer Aspire 5610 since September 2007, but about a month and a half ago I started having the same problem. But not only do I get red blotches, lines & spots, but also blue ones to accompany it.

You don't have an nVidia GPU, by any chance, do you? Because the nVidia driver that keeps failing on me seems to fail a lot of other people when I search it. However, I haven't found any solutions to this problem, as nobody else has mentioned it.

I'll keep you posted if I find a solution, and would appreciate it if you could do the same for me :-)

No, they're not dead pixels - they come and go, flashing around on the screen, sometimes there, sometimes not. If they were dead pixels they wouldn't do the same on an external monitor.

Any other ideas?

Also, problem seems to be exacerbated when computer is running hot or there is pressure on the palm rest. I haven't opened up the computer for fear of voiding the warranty, but I'm guessing that that's where my nVidia geforce go 7300 is located.

pink or reddish splotches on an LCD could signify a bad inverter
