E1705 CPU upgrade

post #1 of 8

Whats the best CPU to upgrade my E1705, running vista 32bit?
It currently has a T5600, and am looking possibly at a T2700, would this be a worth while investment or would a T7600 be better?
Thanks

Get the T7200. The T7600 is over-priced.

Upgrading from a T5600 to a T7200 would be a reasonable upgrade
Upgrading from a T5600 to a T7600 would not be advisable

T7200 = Memron 2.0GHz 4mB shared L2 Cache = $300 (the average retail price right now)
T7600 = Memron 2.33Ghz 4mB shared L2 Cache = $650 ("")

So, you'd be paying $350 for an extra .33Ghz, everything else including the chip revision is identical

All companies do this, they sell their 'flagship' hardware for a ludicrously higher price then the model just below it to cater to the market of rich people who insist on having the absolute best ... even if it costs substantially more. Maybe it has something to do with penis envy ... or maybe rich people just don't have common sense ... cuz if your rich, hell you can buy common sense :P

So if your rich, go nuts with the T7600, and while your at it send me some money cuz im poor :P
However, if you can contemplate logic and/or common sense, stick with the T7200

Sometimes refurbished T7600s show up on google product search. I missed the boat on one that was priced at $215 a few months ago. I wound up buying mine for $270 a couple weeks later. It was a good deal but I wasted a lot of time obsessively checking the list several times a day. An ebay seller also listed a retail boxed one for $170, which I think was intended to be $710. It was gone in a couple minutes. You have to be quick for those steals. The going rate is about $420-450 right now on ebay, if you can live without the warranty.

I paid $475 for my T7600 six months ago and there was no gaming performance gain. The T7200 is the best bang for the buck right now.

Just so you know - there is a chap in HK, selling T7600's on ebay for around $US260, auction still running was looking myself but can't really justify the cost (I have a T2600) for 32 bit apps.
