Upgrade Processor on HP dv9730nr

Hi everyone,

I just bought the new HP Pavilion dv9730nr and was wondering if I am able to upgrade the processor? It currently has Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo Processor T5450 (1.67 GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB)

I was hoping I could upgrade the processor as its basically the weakest link that I have found on this laptop. I know that there are other laptops out there like the new Gateway FX series that let you upgrade the processor, please tell me its possible with this one.

Thanks,

Ken

I thought that it would be, but wanted to make sure. Now since that can be done, would you happen to know what is the highest Intel I can put in there? I have replaced processors on a lot of desktops, but never on a laptop. I took my new laptop somewhat apart already to see where the processor was and its not all that bad to get to. Now just need to find out which one I want to stick in there.

Thanks,

Ken

i suggest that u visited Intel site and browse the cpu specs and configuration of those C2Ds. Pay attention to FSB and L2 Cache since these could decide if a bios update is being needed. But i saw so far loads of upgrade (as high as the $$$/availability can afford) were being performed w/o bios upgrade

You can put a core2duo 2.6ghz mobile cpu in there, biggest problem I see
is taking the laptop apart, holy shitz! what an aweful laptop design,
there is not access to the cpu w/o taking the mobo out. HP does have
instruction online on how to do it...if you dare! Good luck.

jimmy, not to be argumentive, but in what way does that connotate "aweful" (awful) laptop desing???

With a few notable exceptions, notebooks are simply not designed with user-replaceable CPUs as an upgrade option.

Fact of life: if upgradability is is sought after, then buy a desktop...and in fact, build your own desktop...that gives you maximum user-replaceable/upgradable design...

Notebooks are desinged to be as compact as possible with adequate cooling...easily availability to motherboard/cpu/gpu is not a prime consideration.

Don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against folks who want to do upgrades...more power to you, but notebooks are what they are, and ain't what they ain't...and they "ain't" designed with easy upgrade in mind...
