ACER aspire 5920G cooling system

how does the cooling system for this notebook work?
post #2 of 10
well, if i guess correctly, the cpu/gpu would get hot, the heat is being transferred to the heatsink, normally seating on top of the cpu, and the fan would dissipate the heat towards vent holes on the sides, at the bottom or wherever it can move

the whole thing would be controlled and managed by some heat sensor and software

cooling is good. exhaust vents from the rear, and the fan is more than adequate. Interesting thing about the heatsink is that it is shared by both the cpu and gpu. the cpu makes contact on the bottom, and the gpu on the top. neat design, and works well. have not seen one overheat even when playing hd-dvd

because I have an 8600M GT on my Vostro, but if I overclock over a certain value (605) I probably get artifacts (points on the screen?), in this NB it can overclock up to 650 and no artifacts at all.

i m afraid that each notebook gpu would react differently when one oc it. also heat is not the only culprit that would artifact ur screen

a fews like:
. bad graphic card (there is such a thing as a bad card)
. driver
. power supplying to the card
. some crazy thing like SLI bridge if u have one
. etc ...

cheers ...

artifacts on display are usually from video memory errors. usually when you overclock the video memory too fast you will get blocks or squares on the screen.

Does anyone have pictures of their Gemstone's cooling solution? I'd be interested in seeing some pictures of the innards.

Ok, here are some of the 5920g, but if anyone has any other model of Gemstone it would be still cool to take a looksie;
