Alienware Trade-in VS. Ebay....

I am confused as to why someone would do the alienware trade in over Ebay?

I am planning on selling my m9700 in the summer-- but when I saw that I could only get 600$ out of it on the trade in system, I was a little surprised...

I don't know how much I can get off ebay.. but surely it more than that... more than even 1500$ i would assume..................\

am i wrong?

Ya, I only get $538 if I traded in my m9750,
IMO on eBay, it's a bit risky to sell something over $3k.

Hmm, my system is kind of old. I did a price quote on my m5500 and got almost $600. I'm not sure that I could get that amount if I tried to sell it, since it only has a Pentium M processor...

anything that high in price attracts a lot of scammers.

It's very easy for the buyer to do charge backs if you you haven't transfered the cash to a bank account yet.
How much did you buy your system for?

The quote that they give you seems to be off. Checking this morning they gave me an estimate of $528 for my Area 51m2 which will be 4 yrs old this June. Specs are: P4 3ghz, 1GB RAM, 60GB 7200rpm, ATI 9600pro, CD/DVD, 802.11b/g, 15.4" LCD.

A co-worker of mine who purchased an m5500 about a year ago for around $1600, his quote was around the $600 vicinity.

Go figure??

I've decided to keep my m5500 after all. I just wiped the hard drive and installed Ubuntu on it, and it is performing beautifully. Though I won't be able to play too many games on it anymore, it's got a new life as a linux laptop with a very decent nvidia 6600 (256mb) gpu.

Alienware attracts a lot of scammers on Ebay. However, there a ton of legitimate buyers out there looking for an Alienware on Ebay. If you use Paypal and common sense, you can be reasonably assured that you won't get scammed.

I almost bought a vintage 2002 laptop on ebay for $300 for the hell of it. I love seeing old notebooks like that.

Vintage hardware is pretty cool. I have a few items (relics? ) myself and enjoy connecting my Commodore Vic-20 (pre-C-64 days ) up and going through some of the Basic language programs that I wrote in the very early 80's.

That's funny! I have a C64 that I had when I was kid. I was just talking to my buddy about hooking it up in the lab and playing with it! Ha!

It's a blast to go back and look at the very simplistic programs that I wrote. The model that I got didn't come with the 5.25" floppy drive attachment, I have the audio cassette version.

checked again... still less than 500 bucks... its strange that it doesn't ask about graphics cards etc... only processor, memory, ram etc.....

my SLI cards would make it go up considerably i feel....

Alienware notebooks are useless when bought on ebay. there is no warranty for second had and alienware won't fix it for you even if you pay yourself.

it's retarded.

AW has to resell them with a warranty and stuff, so they'll always offer far less than market price.

Ebay is a fairly good indication of market price. AW offered me $355 for my m5550 with an additional $200 for "customer loyalty", for a total of $555. I sold it on eBay for $1,030.

The things you sell on the "AlienExchange" or trade in program don't go to Alienware, they go to "DealTree".
AlienExchange is completely run by DealTree.
