DDR/DDR2 Question

I just looked inside of my friends PC and he seems to have a 512mb module that is DDR, although I thought on a DDR2 board it would be impossible. I only assumed it was DDR2 I guess but he has an X2 4400 AMD processor so I would doubt they still had DDR mobos around suited for the X2 chips a year/2 ago.

He needs new ram and I'm currently unsure of what to get, lemme just take a look to see if I can find the mobo maker/model

Hmm, A8N-SLi Deluxe. It appears all of the Asus socket 939 boards only accept DDR 400 seems it's gonna cost my friend more than I thought at first

Just double check to make sure that board will take DDR2. DDR is not as big a hit as you might think with the AMD setup, as it handles memory a bit differently.

Yeah I was surprised since his system is pretty high performance considering all my friend's computers.

But it does certainly take only DDR, his 2gb broke down and he I guess is inexperienced with RMA and has not sent them in/may not even be planning to. He just needs it so that he can play supreme commander with me since recently his system isn't handling the vast unit counts.

I highly doubt that board takes DDR2

DDR = 400 > xxx 184pin
DDR2 = 533 + 240pin

when things are rare, or old, what happens to them?

it only makes sence, when things are brand new IE DDR3 and when things are old IE sdram/ddr1 the price is higher, may not be by much for certin things, but it is

try paying 70 bucks for 1 gig stick of micro dimm mmmk
